AK-xolotl Reviews
AK-xolotl presents a cute run'n'gun roguelite concept, but an overall simplicity and lack of post-credits gameplay leaves it ultimately underexplored.
AK-xolotl is a difficult yet highly engaging roguelike that will make you fall in love with its charming woodland creatures while laughing at its absurd violence. Seeing my goofy little AK-xolotl with a giant gun made me grin from ear to ear. It's the roguelike fever dream I've always wanted. Once it gets in the hands of players and additional content is added that can smooth out its presentation of information, I'm confident that folks will enjoy this game.
With cute axolotls and a creative theme, AK-xolotl makes a fantastic first impression. Though the game's roguelike gameplay lacks depth, the challenging shmup keeps you enjoying this wildly imaginative journey.

AK-xolotl is a twin-stick shooter full of action and personality. What bad can happen from giving cute creatures deadly weapons? It's amazing how guilty this game made me feel for thinking about sacrificing my baby's happiness to power my character up!
If AK-xolotl released 10 years ago, it would likely be a cult classic and although it's kind of fun, it doesn't really hold up in today's market.
A textbook roguelite with all the potential to make a name for itself within the genre, with many original proposals and a knowledge of its strengths.

I enjoyed AK-Xolotl and think it deserves most the same love other games in the genre get. Sure it might be easy to glance over because of how many roguelike/roguelites there are, but at this point surely you’ve done everything there is to do in Enter the Gungeon and want to play something similar, so here’s your chance. The idea of being able to build various characters that have different stats, like The Binding of Isaac has for its characters, is a great implementation. I hope if this game does well there’s more to add in the future, but if not then it’s still a fun experience and a great game to play “casually” (as casually as you can play a bullet-hell) for a run or two at a time.
While it has some cute charm and plays reasonably well, against the significant competition in the space it falters
AK-xolotl is an interesting and entertaining game. Available on all platforms, you'll have the chance to play it. At a more than affordable price, it's a title to put on your wish list. Admittedly, the gameplay isn't perfect, but the game's diversity means you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Much like the axolotls in real life, I’d rather watch than play more of “AK-xolotl”. It has a good foundation, but its unnecessarily complicated meta progression, lack of weapons and build variety makes its runs frustrating and repetitive.

Don't let the adorable characters fool you, AK-xolotl is a tough Rogue-lite shmup that'll have you coming back for one run after another!
AK-xolotl is the most entertaining roguelike I’ve played since Nuclear Throne. It nails that sense of pacing, it adds some suitably fresh quirks to differentiate itself and it’s full of belly-busting humour that is rib-cracklingly hilarious. This is an absolute triumph and must-have looter shooter that’s one of the best indie games of the year.
