Critic Reviews for The Exit 8
The Exit 8 is an incredibly unique and massively memorable experience, and for the price of a coffee it's very easy to recommend.
The Exit 8 is a unique and interesting experience, but not one of substance. The “hidden object” gameplay is very shallow and was designed to be picked up and played by anybody with eyes, thumbs, and index fingers. This is a novel and amusing distraction that works as intended and earns a few good chills when played in the dead of a silent night.
The Exit 8 is a short horror experience that feels more like an introduction to VR psychological horrors than anything else.
The Exit 8 is a simple game that manages to capture the feeling of paranoia and the uncanny valley in a way very few titles can. This is a short escape room adventure that will have the player combing every corner looking for anything out of the ordinary, and while it might sound painful, it's a quite incredible experience.
The Exit 8 and The Exit 8 VR is a short experience. You can finish it in 10 to 15 minutes I'm sure, or you can be like me and spend over an hour in there. There isn't much to the game, but it is an interesting experience that tests your powers of observation. I can't compare it to other walking simulators as there isn't anything else quite like it, but those looking for a short puzzle will most likely enjoy it.
It’s a clever little title, handles well on the Switch and comes in at the same price as a Happy Meal. While it won’t blow away critics at the end of the year, The Exit 8 is memorable and serves as a good proof of concept, like how P.T. once captivated players across the world with unspeakable dread.
While the journey is brief, The Exit 8 VR packs a lot of unnerving atmosphere and enticing discovery into its runtime. Its unsettling presentation and anxiety-inducing gameplay sucked me in for the full ride.
