Dynasty Warriors: Origins is recommended as a good option for fans of the franchise, as it represents a step forward thanks to some changes that refresh the formula without losing the saga's identity. Although it is not a revolution in its genre, it is a solid experience for any player who likes action.

Overall, I had a great time with Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The new combat is great, the storytelling is much better than previous entries and the music is just a pure joy to listen to. I do miss the fact you cannot use just any character in combat and I hope they add a Free Mode where you can do this in the game at some point down the line. I feel bad for folks that bought these games to play multiplayer as well, since this one is single player only. That being said, I got about 30 hours out of one story path without doing the extra bits, so there is plenty to love here at the $69.99 price tag.

Omega Force finally returns to its iconic action series with a chapter that aims to reinvent the Musou experience without completely breaking the mold, creating what could be the beginning of a new era for the saga.

I must confess, it's been since the days of Hokuto No Ken on PS3 that I enjoyed a musou game this much, primarily due to my love for the character created by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. In the case of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the hours spent roaming the Three Kingdoms of China are thanks to a revamped gameplay that marries the scale of battles typical of the genre with more refined and satisfying mechanics. A fun and well-structured combat system is accompanied by dynamic and challenging missions that go beyond mindless button mashing. While the decision to downplay the massive roster of playable characters might be criticized, it has made Dynasty Warriors: Origins an excellent reboot for the series and one of the most enjoyable and well-executed musou games, even from a purely technical standpoint. We can be broadly satisfied with the choices made by Omega Force.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins marks a strong return to the franchise, revitalizing the series with fresh gameplay, dynamic weapon-swapping mechanics that reduce repetition, massive battles for newcomers to enjoy, and deeper character insights for veterans, despite some minor drawbacks like a generic avatar introduction and occasional frame drops, resulting in an engaging experience that can easily extend beyond 50 hours.

With Dynasty Warriors Origins, Omega Force wanted to go back to its roots and offer new generations all the unbridled action that characterized each of its previous installments, but now with new mechanics to attract both veteran and new players and a more solid and more "impartial" narrative.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a triumphant return for the series, delivering everything fans loved about the early entries while refining the formula with modern touches. The combat is as exhilarating as ever, the visuals are impressive, and the focus on a single protagonist adds a fresh perspective to the familiar story. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this is a game well worth your time. For me, playing Origins felt like reconnecting with an old friend, and I couldn’t be happier about it. A free demo is also available on Steam.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the most refined entry in the series, blending hyper-musou gameplay with strong strategic depth and a solid 60 FPS on PlayStation 5. While the story and lack of multiplayer hold it back from legendary status, the game shines with its impressive fighting mechanics and exhilarating grand-scale battles.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins just needed to be more direct with the player and get them into combat more quickly. It needed to keep the basic mechanics of the studio's other musou games to maintain the strategic possibilities, and we'd be talking about one of the most impressive games of recent times. Fortunately, even though it's not perfect, it's still so fun, impactful and full of quality that it's still excellent.

Origins isn't the kind of game that will significantly win over new players and it has some problems that may bother veterans, but it's a solid foundation on which to build a new era.

I believe Dynasty Warriors: Origins was designed to appeal to a wider audience for the musou genre, adding an extra layer of variety to the traditional formula. For my personal taste as a fan of this style of game, I was quite pleased. The combat has more depth, the narrative is more linear and the diverse structure gives this reboot a fresh feel, moving it away from feeling like just "more of the same".

Dynasty Warriors Origins is a triumph of the hack-and-slash genre, offering newcomers and veterans alike a thrilling journey through ancient China’s legendary battles. Its combination of stunning visuals, deeply satisfying combat, and meaningful progression systems creates an experience that’s hard to put down. Despite its occasional narrative hiccups and occasional pacing issues, it stands as a shining example of what the franchise can achieve. Whether you’re a long time fan or a curious newcomer like me, this is a journey worth taking. Just be prepared to lose yourself in a sea of names, faces, and epic battles. Oh, and you’re going to have to slay somewhere in the ballpark of half a million soldiers….so get to work!
