The 9th game in the famous series by Koei Tecmo makes an impact the size of a Musou Attack. The new direction the game is going in is an interesting decision but does more than enough to keep you engaged and has the action-packed gameplay that diehard fans know and love.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is the first entry in the series for this generation of consoles, making the graphics leaps and bounds better than Dynasty Warriors 9, released in 2018. Incorporating several positive things from its predecessor, like the open-world feature, Origins infinitely improved on them.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is one of the best gaming experiences of this very young year. The combat is surprisingly deep, there’s an enjoyable variety of weapon where you’re sure to find a favorite, yet the game still encourages you to mix and match a bit. The special attacks are fun to use and the amount of enemies on screen is very impressive; despite some generic features. While it can get repetitve during long play sessions, it remains one of the more enjoyable games to play after a long day of work or school. If you’ve been hesitant to jump into the series, unironically, Dynasty Warriors Origins is great entry point. Highly recommended.

Most players expected Dynasty Warriors: Origins to be another action slasher based on a well-established formula. However, the developers decided to diversify the game by adding several fascinating innovations and improvements, which gave the series a second wind. This ensures that the game will not only reach the old fans tired of its repetitiveness but will also attract a significant number of new followers. It's definitely a game worth playing.

I have incredibly conflicted feelings about it, moving from joy to disappointment hourly. If you’re a lapsed DW fan, this might be the game for you. I miss playing as the cool heroes, but I don’t miss levelling them all up. I miss the variety in weapons. I miss the weirdness. This is (a bit) more grounded, fake sorcery aside, yet also only barely touches the big battles that are expected. This is a new direction for the series, and I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad direction. Dynasty Warriors is dead, long live Dynasty Warriors.

The narrative is still a jumbled mess, but the surprisingly deep combat system and breathtaking battles make this one of the finest entries in the long-running franchise.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a brilliant reboot of the series. Playing as a central character instead of hopping between classic heroes works. It looks damned good most of the time, sounds great, and features an excellent mix of group and single-fighter combat. For those new or returning to the series you’ll find dozens of hours of combative bliss.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is an excellent addition to this long-running series, introducing valuable improvements that revitalize its core gameplay. The combat and progression systems have been refined, resulting in a much better overall experience compared to its previously criticized predecessor. Battling as the amnesiac Wanderer against hordes of troops remains an exhilarating experience, with powerful attacks that send enemies flying to the next town. Running smoothly on capable hardware, including the Steam Deck, Dynasty Warriors Origins is sure to satisfy your cravings for action and hack-and-slash gameplay.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is very solid and despite its shortcomings, it offers a complete experience that will keep the fanbase warm after several years where it either seemed stagnant in some parts, or some new additions didn't work so well.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is a really enjoyable game and the best looking title in the series by a mile. The story may tread on familiar territory with being a tad bloated in conversation, but the bonds you’ll make with the massive cast of characters can produce some really fun moments. With a ton of weapons to master and a decent skill tree to work towards, Origins is a staggeringly solid comeback after the disastrous Dynasty Warriors 9. Whether new to the series or a veteran of the franchise, Origins is hands-down the best in the series.

Dynasty Warriors Origins is a strong return for the franchise, one that appears confident in its skin. Combat feels and looks better than ever, offering more nuance and tactical depth as swathes of foes are felled on the battlefield. The loss of the vast roster for a single playable character and a cooperative mode weigh heavy, but they are still outweighed by the notable accomplishments found everywhere else in Omega Force’s refinement of the series’ longstanding formula.

I feel like saying I enjoyed Dynasty Warriors: Origins is an understatement. The game is excellent and really brings back the same feelings I had as a child. Battles are way more epic than I imagined, even after playing the demo. Combat flows really damn well and makes pulling fun combos enjoyable. Using the different weapons brings a fun style of gameplay without seeming like a chore. My only minor complaint is that I sometimes felt levelling up weapon proficiency could seem like a chore. I confess, personally I don’t use the squad/army tactic skills enough, but that’s more on me. The overhaul of everything makes it feel like a brand new game without saturating what it used to be. My biggest source of enjoyment so far in the game (and easily the part that had me grinning stupidly) was the battle at Hulao Gate. It’s exactly how I pictured it in my mind when playing the older entries of the franchise. Tie that all in with an amazing soundtrack and simple yet fun level design, and I am awestruck. Now, I know it sounds like I’m preaching from a gospel, but honestly, if you love the franchise, I feel you will love this addition. And if you’re new to it, then you’re in for a great experience. That is why I’m awarding Dynasty Warriors: Origins the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

The character-driven storyline, dynamic mission structure, and overhauled combat system breathe fresh life into the formulaic old girl, making it all at once nostalgic and rejuvenated.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is not just a return to form, but a triumphantly thrilling reinvention of the series. By combining a focused, emotionally resonant narrative with thrilling, large-scale battles and refined combat mechanics, Koei Tecmo has crafted an experience that’ll appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. While it’s not without its shortcomings, Dynasty Warriors: Origins successfully reinvents the formula whilst maintaining the charm, excitement, and non-stop action that made it so beloved to begin with.
