While I was a little skeptical of the new direction for Dynasty Warriors: Origins at first, I found myself thoroughly impressed after diving in. The more complex take on hack-and-slash combat kept me playing this for hours at a time, and the plot and character moments kept me gripped, even as someone familiar with the series and various takes on the story it’s based on.
Is Dynasty Warriors: Origins the pinnacle of the Musou games? In a lot of ways, it is. However, I think it comes down to whether you prefer the crossover games, where emphasis is certainly on story (especially with the Zelda Musou games), or you want a super-charged Musou experience that maximises the core of what these games are.
Dynasty Warriors Origins delivered a compelling leap forward in gameplay, with a vibrant world of battles and a massive horde of enemies. Thanks to improved graphics, solid technical performance, and a compelling narrative punctuated by engaging dialogue and tangible twists, the game successfully reignited the series' appeal. However, the absence of free-roaming or cooperative modes remains a weakness that may disappoint players accustomed to the series' renowned variety of gameplay styles.

DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS is a near-perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Between the much-improved combat, the more in-depth and engaging storytelling, the interesting overworld, and plenty of replayability, Dynasty Warriors: Origins doesn’t feel like just the franchise’s next entry, but a magnificent reboot that breathes new life into the series. And that is before you even dive into the higher difficulties and enjoy the postgame content. While the outsider perspective of the Wanderer and his relative lack of emotions take some getting used to, everyone else is at the peak of their powers, and the result is a fantastic game made for newcomers and a glorious benchmark for veterans to measure upcoming games against.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins succeeds in an almost impossible mission: unhinging the most entrenched beliefs and paradigms related to the musou genre, while not disavowing its fundamental and defining characteristics. Omega Force's signature relaunch of the saga combines the best of the saga with modern insights that finally make the experience more varied, fresh and tantalizing. Some sacrifices and compromises might turn the noses of fans of the series, however, while those who have never experienced the appeal of such a unique genre will not necessarily be charmed by the novelties. In any case, Origins represents the highest point reached by the saga as well as a new beginning that could bring enormous satisfaction even to those who have never approached the battles of the Three Kingdoms.

I loved every moment of Dynasty Warriors: Origins and it’s an amazing return to form for the franchise that defines a genre and I can’t recommend it enough, I’d wholly recommend taking charge go the battle field and indulging in the romance of the three kingdoms in the best way Omega Force and Koei Tecmo know how, unrelenting 1 vs 1000 action.
