Marvel's Wolverine's slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion, so much so that even its strong character work can't quite save it from being anything more than okay.
Wolverine's characterisation is a bright spot in this otherwise underwhelming, old-school romp that reminds us how far action games have come.
Marvel’s Wolverine gets its claws in deep with a memorable, emotional, and high-stakes story, wonderful interpretations of Logan, Jean, and the rest of the cast, and brutally satisfying combat that distils the core of the character down to every snikt and claw pop.
At best, it’s a fun but forgettable experience that’ll entertain you for a few hours. At worst, it shows that just because you can make really good superhero games with one character, that doesn’t mean you can make really good superhero games with any character.
Wolverine is a game with momentary sparks of fun, but its mostly-good combat getting constantly dragged down by mediocre storytelling, poor pacing, and an underwhelming amount of player agency left me very bored far too often.
Marvel's Wolverine is an absolute triumph in nearly every category, doing for the character what Marvel's Spider-Man did for Spider-Man.
Marvel's Wolverine is a slickly presented superhero romp that casts players as the iconic mutant. Combat is extremely violent, as the character demands, but also highly repetitive.
