The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Reviews
Overall, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered brings plenty of welcome changes to the original formula while still maintaining the quirkiness of the original game. This is a prime example of a loving remaster: improve the original concept without veering away from it completely. It's not completely perfect, since it still features some of the glitchy nature of the original game, like asset pop-in. Nonetheless, "perfect" isn't what fans want out of Elder Scrolls. They want exploration and fun, and that's exactly what you get from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered updates the technical aspects of the renowned RPG through the use of Unreal Engine 5, enhancing lighting, animations, and sound. However, it suffers from instability, with frequent crashes and significant drops in frame rate, particularly in open environments. The original issues persist, including the notorious auto-leveling system and an outdated combat system. Additionally, some changes made to the character progression risk amplifying the problems already present in the original version.

Both the soul and the body show some significant rough edges, but it is truly impossible not to appreciate the work done by the Singapore team, creators of a Cyrodiil that resembles the one in our memories more than the scenario actually explored in the early 2000s. This is no small feat, mind you.

Oblivion Remastered is a lovingly retouched makeover of an endlessly fun power fantasy that’s not afraid to show its retro goofiness. It charms not despite its technical flaws, but in large part because of them.
How has it been almost twenty years since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion first released? It feels like it was only yesterday my dark elf hero emerged...
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is as much of a must-play title as the original, the easiest title to recommend to any gamer.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is everything a fan could want and an excellent primer on what makes the series so magical.
Oblivion Remastered is undoubtedly a beautiful visual update of the classic. At the same time, the game hasn't got rid of its old flaws. NPCs still act like they're caught in a time trap, frozen in the time of the original. Bugs and technical issues are still a part of this world, which certainly detracts from the overall impression of the update.
A remaster can only make a 20-year old game so modern without becoming a remake. Oblivion Remastered makes the old game beautiful, far less clunky, but it's still the old game at its core.
Where the flank is exposed to more problems is on the technical front . We relived Cyrodill on PC and evidently Unreal Engine 5 was more difficult to manage than expected.

There is no mistaking Oblivion for what it truly is: an early PS360 game from 2006 wearing an Unreal 5 skinsuit. If you already love Oblivion, then you will adore Oblivion Remastered since it is a new way to experience a legitimate classic of its era. There are a scant few extra surprises tucked away, but this is the same game you know and love… for better and for worse.
Still flawed and even with some wasted opportunities, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is an excellent opportunity for old fans to enjoy the game in the best possible way and serves as a great first step for newcomers.

It's rare for a game to deliver the same mind-blowing impact two decades apart, but The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered pulls it off effortlessly. While the core gameplay remains unchanged, it's just as engaging and relevant in 2025 as in 2006-proof of how ahead of its time Oblivion truly was. The visuals, however, have been completely overhauled with Unreal Engine 5, giving the game a stunning new identity that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of the current ninth-generation titles. Oblivion is how you make a game, and Oblivion Remastered is how you remaster it.

A remaster of one of the best games in The Elder Scrolls series has arrived like a bolt from the blue. The fiery gates of Oblivion have reopened and look better than ever. But some of the flaws of the past remain.

Some minor technical issues aside, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is everything a fan of the series could ask for, whilst also giving newcomers the best version of the game.
The score refers only to the quality of the remaster and technical condition. Oblivion itself is still an outstanding RPG, but the PS5 version needs a lot of patches to start working properly. Well, and it's a shame that there are basically no differences between the edition for the regular PS5 and the PS5 Pro. The quality mode is useless, and the game dumping to the main menu is some kind of unpleasant joke. I will point out, however, that when everything works well, the game plays wonderfully, and the quality of the visuals can sometimes literally “blow you out of your slippers.”

Not flawless, yet a decent remaster that doesn't change the fundamentals of a classic game, still adds so much-needed gameplay and quality of life improvements.

Returning to Cyrodiil is a delight. Oblivion Remastered takes everything Bethesda did right in the fourth chapter of The Elder Scrolls and updates it to make it as enjoyable today as we enjoyed it almost 20 years ago. Faster load times, a redrawn world for increased visual impact, new lines of dialogue and gameplay improvements are the foundation of a very powerful experience that includes all expansions and DLC for hundreds of hours of enjoyment in Cyrodiil, Oblivion and the Realm of Madness.

Few remasters succeed in delivering the same game with such impact—preserving its original charm while making it look and feel like something entirely new. If that was the goal behind The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered, then I’d say the developers have absolutely accomplished it.
