With hitbox resizing, the ability to move in one direction while shooting in another, and some difficulty adjustments, Gryphon Knight Epic could be an okay game. As it stands, it's a messy medieval hodgepodge that you'd be better off avoiding at all costs. Save yourself some money by instead buying some feathers and a fake beak and putting them on your dog.

A beautiful retro game with a great concept. However, there are a variety of hurdles along the way that keep it from being as good as it should have been.

Perhaps with a little more time on some polishing (or even a patch) this game would be very easy for me to love. In turn, I think the game is likely better than I'm giving it credit for and that my lack of skill is what really made the game challenging. Go out there and prove me wrong, if you dare.

Gryphon Knight Epic is one part fantastic, with a touch of frustration. With a few tweaks and some better design it would be something I could easily recommend for everyone. As it stands though, grinding to upgrade my abilities simply holds the title back from being great. Still definitely worth checking out though when time and money permits, or if you happen to catch it on a decent sale.

Honestly, as I mentioned before, Gryphon Knight Epic doesn't bring a lot of innovation to the table. That said, with its relatively free movement and exploration, secrets to uncover, and several weapons to upgrade and master, it delivers well on what it does offer.

In the four hours it took me to get through Gryphon Knight Epic, all I could think about was how I wanted it to end so I could move on and play something better.

Some good humor, some bad ideas and really nice design. Quite difficult entry even for a veteran shmups players.

Gryphon Knight Epic is a challenging and enjoyable—if forgettable—little shoot-'em-up with plenty of nostalgia to offer the 25 to 35-year-old crowd.

A fun, solid sidescrolling shooter. There's not a lot wrong with it, and I managed to have some good fun.

A return to the heyday of 2D pixel art has clearly been attempted, although rather than the revolutionary pixel artistry of games like Fez we are given an aesthetic which many would simply regard as dated

Gryphon Knight Epic might not be the most mechanically sound shooter to hit the PlayStation 4, but its raw ideas are abundant.

I had a ton of fun playing the game for this Gryphon Knight Epic review. The game is the perfect lenght, and it includes a full trophy count that will surely make trophy hunters happy. The Platinum will definitely require some effort, but if you work hard enough you should have it in your collection.

Not only is it fun, it's also horrendously cute. I mean, in the first level an enemy warrior threw a spear at me, it connected, and he jumped for joy shouting a delightfully high-pitched "woo-hoo". Now, I'm pretty sure this is a personal first, but I was actively happy for the guy.
