Critic Reviews for 1f y0u're a gh0st ca11 me here!

1f y0u're a gh0st ca11 me here! is one of the more unique games I've played on the Nintendo Switch. It does get repetitive after a while, but the striking visuals, compelling story, and frantic "call center" gameplay will be enough to get most new gr1ms through the workday.

Sadly, ca11 me here!’s gameplay is fairly one note. That is, once you’ve played the first round of its minigame, you’ve played the whole game.

1f you’re a gh0st call me here! is still an interesting game, perhaps because it’s not too ambitious, or because it considers its limitations well and works on top of them while succeding in doing so. For many, this type of game may require a certain process of acquired taste, but it may please fans of more alternative works, such as Milk Outside A Bag of Milk Outside A Bag of Milk, OFF, or Yume Nikki, which I can imagine finishing the game thinking something like: “yeah… it was actually fun”.

1f y0u’re a gh0st ca11 me here! is decent enough: great design, novel plot, alright mechanics. I appreciate that the touchscreen on the Switch works even better than controls when it comes to the switchboard. But it honestly feels like it ends right as it’s getting going, leaving the player high and dry in terms of real resolution, character development and satisfaction. I didn’t dislike the game, but the rough edges felt sharper without space between them, and the overall takeaway was Shakespearean: “Out, out brief candle! And then is heard no more.”

1f y0u’re a gh0st ca11 me here! is high on tropes and text, but the actual game within is curiously alluring. If you are a fan of visual novels with a splash of innovation, you will enjoy the calm of the story elements versus the storm of incoming calls. To coin an appropriate cliché, it’s a game of two halves that balance each other out into a fun-filled few minutes. 1f y0u’re a gh0st ca11 me here! is a deserving winner of the Thumb Culture Silver Award!
