Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds takes the franchise in an exciting new direction, showcasing addictive, skill-based kart racing mechanics, excellent course design, and the intriguing possibility of collaboration across multiple franchises. However, the lack of a dedicated story mode and the limitations of the online netcode detract from an otherwise polished and enjoyable experience.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the best arcade racer on the market, especially for PC players. However, the steep price feels too high, even with everything the game offers, and the choice to include characters from outside the franchise while beloved Sonic characters are still missing leaves this reviewer disappointed and a bit perplexed.

Whether Sonic can dethrone Mario for the better racing game remains to be seen, but in this case, the Blue Blur is on the right track and offers so much more than the Italian plumber. With a continuously expanding roster from SEGA and beyond, exciting and adrenaline-pumping races, tons of nostalgia, smooth online experience with crossplay and much more, Sonic’s newest racer has so much going for it that even Mario fans would be afraid to admit.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds proves that SEGA can stand toe-to-toe with Nintendo’s karting giant, delivering a racer that’s fast, inventive, and bursting with content. The drifting feels incredible, the rival system adds real personality to each race, and the crossworld portal mechanic keeps every track unpredictable. Sure, the items may not be as iconic as Mario Kart’s and newcomers might face a steeper learning curve, but none of that overshadows just how fun this game is to play. With a stacked roster, smart customisation, and exciting crossover content on the horizon, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn’t just Sonic’s best kart racer, but also one of the best modern releases in the genre.

I am not saying that Sonic games are back, but I am definitely saying that Sonic racing games are back. This is a game that loves accessible racing and has an adoration for its own franchise. It has elevated each part of what came before, and I don’t think Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds can be dismissed as the ‘other kart racing’ game anymore.

It respects the series' history while pushing the genre forward through innovative mechanics and thoughtful design. For anyone seeking a kart racer that prioritizes fun, variety, and replayability, CrossWorlds delivers on all fronts.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is proof that less is sometimes more. There is very little in the way between the player and the game's content, making for a refreshing pick-up-and-play experience that will satisfy players of all ages and skill levels. CrossWorlds is a kart racer that deeply understands the appeal of the genre and manages to finish in first place because of that.

"Sonic's most daring racing experience" Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers one of SEGA's boldest attempts at challenging the popular kart games. With its dimensional racing system, vibrant graphics, and interactive music, the game offers Sonic fans a fast-paced, nostalgic experience, with a variety of mechanics, ideas, and gameplay. The online issues hinder its rise to the top, but the game remains fun and innovative.

SEGA manages to differentiate its arcade racing game from Mario Kart World in several ways, achieving a super fun experience with its own mechanics, which only suffers from a lack of content and constant drops in resolution.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is an impressive return from SEGA and Sonic Team. This outing easily stands with its arm around Mario Kart World on the same pedestal. With its depth, numerous tracks, and customisation options, alongside competitive online racing, there is plenty of replayability and longevity here. Having the crossworlds mechanics makes for spontaneous races that can turn on their head in a split second. It’s a seamless experience on Xbox Series X, running at a solid 60 frames per second, even during maximum screen intensity. It may have taken some time, but this Sonic kart-racing formula is perfection after several instalments and experimentation. There is an excellent fusion of brand-new mechanics and true nostalgia alongside its roster of well-loved characters and excellent soundtrack. For fans of Sonic and the karting genre, this game is a triumph that is well worth buying.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is everything a kart racer should be and then some. It’s absolutely chock-full of characters and tracks, features some of the most satisfying racing mechanics I’ve experienced, and has a plethora of modes to play around with. If you dig Mario Kart, you do not want to miss out on Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a fast, stylish return to form for Sega’s kart-racing efforts, blending tight controls with deep customization and a surprisingly generous amount of content. While the core gameplay shines and rival interactions add flair, the overuse of its Travel Rings gimmick and a cautious character roster hold it back from true greatness. It’s a solid, replayable racer that’s fun solo or with friends, just don’t expect it to fully reinvent the wheel.

Excellent visuals with great performance, vibrant tracks, a technical driving model with quite the skill ceiling, a massive depth and variety, despite the not crazy amount of unique content just quite yet.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds may not have the polish of Mario Kart World, but it’s a Sonic racer that finally earns a spot in the conversation with the genre’s best. The mix of vehicle types and gadget setups alone give the gameplay a layer of depth that most games in the genre don’t really aim for. It has its grindy moments, specifically with Donpa Tickets, but the foundation here is strong enough that the fun outweighs all the flaws. For fans of kart racers or Sonic in general, this is easily one of the series’ brightest surprises in years.

The soundtrack is amazing, as is now Sega tradition, a mix of different sounds and genres that fortunately you can enjoy at your leisure in jukebox mode. Our opinions on the sound effects are mixed. What we weren't convinced by, above all, was the roar of the engines, which was far too monotonous to be anything other than annoying after a while.
