Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Reviews
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds lacks elements from other Sega franchises to give it more variety. The guest appearances are fun curiosities, but some are paid content and not part of the core offering like Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed. That game had different types of vehicles while adding portal travel during races and rivals as an additional challenge, which are missing from this game. It has several unlockables, speeds to master and has a fair learning curve, which make it an ideal alternative option on older platforms and a more competent option on current multiplatforms.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a spectacular arcade racing game that shines for its customization and brilliant world-switching mechanics. While it requires a brief adjustment period and the chaos on the track can be overwhelming, it's an addictive, fast-paced game, and one of the best options in the genre.

After playing many racers in the Sonic series, this is by far one of the best ones yet. Melding widely different racing styles together almost effortlessly, alongside adding its own innovations with the CrossWorld and Gadget mechanic, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds celebrates the Sonic franchise, and rival kart racers look for bananas in their tailpipes. Even some limitations with online play modes can’t slow down this high-speed race.
With a fantastic track selection and an excellent online and offline mode, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” is a must have for both Sonic and arcade racing fans. By far one of the best surprises of 2025.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is everything a kart racer should be and the best kart racer of the year.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the most accessible and engaging kart racing game of the year, and one that has significantly raised the bar for the genre.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the inevitable result of Sonic Team’s growing ambition and polish combined with years of arcade racing experience. The result is the very best kart racing game I’ve played since the early 2010s, and a massive turnaround after the tepid thud of Team Sonic Racing. The titular CrossWorld mechanic makes for a game that’s bursting with variety and unpredictability, all woven together wonderfully with considered game balance and customization thanks to its gadget system. My few qualms with the game like occasionally spotty visuals and certain grindy elements do almost nothing to detract from how addicting and compelling everything about the core gameplay is, from its gamefeel to strong track design. In the end, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from it just to write this review, and I really think that says it all.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is one of my gaming highlights of fall 2025 and easily among the best kart racers I’ve ever played. It’s accessible yet challenging, full of long-term potential thanks to its online modes and festivals, and shows that Team Sonic truly delivered. The only downside is how quickly the current content runs out, though even on the aging Switch hardware, the game runs impressively well—and I’m already looking forward to the upcoming Switch 2 version.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds mixes fast-paced racing, world-hopping tracks, and Sonic flair into one wild kart racer. The CrossWorlds gameplay mechanic keeps races unpredictable, and the mix of cars, planes, and hoverboards gives each lap its own rhythm. The game looks great and its energetic soundtrack makes it easy to stay hooked, even when a few tracks feel too familiar.
With the new Crossworlds mechanic really spicing things up gameplay-wise, alongside the Gadget Plate, this might be the best Sonic racing game ever, and it’s definitely the best of 2025, including the moustachioed plumber’s latest offering.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is guaranteed fun and celebrates the legacy of the blue blur in style. Even without impressive graphics on the Switch, the game shines with its multiverse concept, varied roster, and solid gameplay, establishing itself as one of the best racing titles in the franchise.

To be honest, as much as I had a lot of fun with the game, after this review it'll be a while before I get back to playing it. That's because SEGA announced an upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Unfortunately, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the Nintendo Switch isn't something I'd recommend; it's a much better game than it is on Nintendo's first hybrid platform. I don't know how big the upgrade will be for the Nintendo Switch 2, but improving the lighting and clarity of what's displayed on screen will go a long way toward ensuring a more enjoyable experience.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds maintains the goodwill and positivity of Sonic the Hedgehog’s recent return to form in the gaming space and is essential for both fans of kart-racers and the blue hedgehog’s legendary franchise.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds takes the franchise in an exciting new direction, showcasing addictive, skill-based kart racing mechanics, excellent course design, and the intriguing possibility of collaboration across multiple franchises. However, the lack of a dedicated story mode and the limitations of the online netcode detract from an otherwise polished and enjoyable experience.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a vibrant, addictive, and high-octane kart racer that bravely breaks into a space dominated by Mario Kart - and gives it a run for its money.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the best arcade racer on the market, especially for PC players. However, the steep price feels too high, even with everything the game offers, and the choice to include characters from outside the franchise while beloved Sonic characters are still missing leaves this reviewer disappointed and a bit perplexed.
Whether Sonic can dethrone Mario for the better racing game remains to be seen, but in this case, the Blue Blur is on the right track and offers so much more than the Italian plumber. With a continuously expanding roster from SEGA and beyond, exciting and adrenaline-pumping races, tons of nostalgia, smooth online experience with crossplay and much more, Sonic’s newest racer has so much going for it that even Mario fans would be afraid to admit.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds proves that SEGA can stand toe-to-toe with Nintendo’s karting giant, delivering a racer that’s fast, inventive, and bursting with content. The drifting feels incredible, the rival system adds real personality to each race, and the crossworld portal mechanic keeps every track unpredictable. Sure, the items may not be as iconic as Mario Kart’s and newcomers might face a steeper learning curve, but none of that overshadows just how fun this game is to play. With a stacked roster, smart customisation, and exciting crossover content on the horizon, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn’t just Sonic’s best kart racer, but also one of the best modern releases in the genre.
