007 First Light understands that Bond isn’t just gadgets and gunfights. There’s a lot of charm and chaos, and an abundance of improvisation under pressure.
007 First Light is a great stealth-action experience packaged into a very strong exploration of Bond's early days that's both as charming and as intriguing as we hoped it would be. Its missions are set in maps that take you all around the world, and are always brimming with possibilities as you make your way around them. This one's definitely among our favorites this year, and for good reason.
The best moments in 007 First Light are the ones where everything aligns for a few minutes, and you stop thinking about mechanics entirely.
007 First Light delivers a strong Bond origin story with solid stealth, gadget use, and plenty of spy-thriller energy.
IOI has crafted an excellent action-adventure game, with a strong focus on stealth gameplay, serving as the perfect launching pad for a rebirth of the 007 franchise in video game form. First Light works, there's no doubt about that. The story is compelling, Bond's new characterization fits perfectly with modern audiences (even if many longtime fans will probably dislike it), and the universe created by Ian Fleming has been treated with the respect it deserves, paying homage to it without ever feeling excessive while modernizing it where necessary.

First Light does not break the mold in any meaningful ways, while not being a bad game either. In fact, IOI's first forray with 007 is pretty great. And with their history of updates and meaningful sequels - I look forward where 007 goes next.
By deftly combining its stealth-sim expertise from the Hitman franchise with big-budget, blockbuster sensibilities, IO Interactive has crafted a stellar action espionage romp. Most of all, it's a reverence for the source material, and a willingness to tell new Bond stories, that elevates 007 First Light to greatness.

007 First Light is a thrilling adventure from start to finish that is a bit too heavy-handed with its stealth and fetch gameplay elements. While the game is arguably the best 007 game in the last twenty years, it does feel like it could be better.
Beyond its technical accomplishments, which are plenty, 007 First Light succeeds at breathing life into a character that has purposely remained larger than life.

007 First Light manages to carve out its own identity while making the most of IO Interactive’s past experience. The locales are exotic, the cars are fast, the Gadgets are fun, and the Bond charm is dazzling. Just try and ignore the product placement.
007 First Light is a fantastic single-player adventure that captures the simple joy of blazing through an entertaining action game. For some players, it may feel like too much Uncharted or not enough Hitman, but First Light balances those influences without losing sight of what makes James Bond special. The result is one of the year’s standout single-player experiences and a game that deserves to be in the Game of the Year conversation.
Ultimately, 007 First Light is exactly the start the series needed to enter the gaming world; instead of repeating the same formula we've seen from James Bond in the movies for years, IO Interactive took the courage to tell the story of the formation of this legend.
