I would warmly recommend Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are two of the best games in the Mario franchise, and some of the best platformers ever made. They've barely aged in the past two decades, and feel just as innovative and joyous as they did on the original Nintendo Wii. For those who've never played them, they'll feel like a revelation, even when compared to newer, fancier titles. For everyone else, it's like coming back home.

A stellar remaster of two 3D platforming masterpieces that remain inventive and fresh a decade later. While the steep price and dated motion controls detract slightly, the stunning 4K/60 FPS upgrade on Switch 2 makes this package essential for newcomers and worthy of a return trip for fans.

It's a very difficult rating to assign, and you probably understand why if you've read this review. Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are still two exceptional video games in every respect, perhaps the pinnacle of 3D platformers in the history of video games, and they deserve to be discovered or rediscovered by everyone. The remaster, however, is certainly not memorable, and the launch price does little to reflect the work that has gone into it. The absence of a native version for Switch 2 is also quite inexplicable. The rating you find here attempts to mediate between the unrivalled quality of the two platformers, games that everyone should jealously guard in their library, and the actual realisation of a remastered version sold at a premium price. In essence, two timeless masterpieces... but at a high price.

For that price, it needed more. Much more. Legendary games? Definitely. But even legends age. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 proves that if you want to get money out of players, a slight facelift isn't enough. Yes, these games are still fun, and it's easy to overlook the flaws that come with age. But not the price tag. In fact, if you don't mind the lower resolution, you're better off getting a Nintendo Wii and playing it there.

Thanks to a meticulous remastering, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 kicks off the 40th anniversary of the world's most famous plumber with an unmissable celebration worthy of the legacy of two of the best 3D platformers in history. Breaking free from the constraints of long-discontinued hardware, this is the perfect opportunity to experience (or revisit) adventures of galactic proportions, representing the best that Nintendo and its video games have to offer: pure, genuine, and undeniable fun.

The Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 collection brings two all-time great Mario adventures to the Switch 2, offering their best visual presentation yet, with a crisp 4K docked resolution. While the package is a great value, the port is severely compromised by Nintendo's choice to retain the original Wii-era motion controls—clumsily mapped to gyro and touchscreen—instead of fully remapping them to buttons. This results in frustrating and unintuitive gameplay in handheld mode. Despite these "shackles from a previous generation," the sheer quality and inventive design of the two core games shine through, making it a recommended, though imperfect, way to experience these masterpieces

Despite a few dated 3D models and a camera that sometimes shows its limits, these two adventures remain remarkably creative.

The gameplay quality of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is still beyond doubt even today, and just like back in the Wii days, we had a lot of fun collecting all the stars. With the graphical improvements and smaller additions such as the integrated OST music player and the assist mode, Nintendo has also delivered a bit of added value. However, from our point of view, the asking price is a hindrance to giving an unrestricted purchase recommendation.

Two galactic works from Nintendo stand the test of time with flying colors. You quickly find yourself smiling and feeling energized as you overcome each challenge Nintendo has created. Although the remasters are a minimal effort, they bring improvements, especially on the Nintendo Switch 2, and remain a passion to play.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are timeless classics and milestones in the platformer genre that are well worth the steep price tag. The wealth of ideas and variety in gameplay remain unmatched to this day. Jumping through weightless levels with Mario still feels magical even after all these years. Only the pointer controls sometimes remind me that these are fairly old games. The timeless art style of both games shines in the remasters with the brilliance it deserves. Especially on the Switch 2, the games look stunning in 4K and with updated, crispier textures. Although it is unfortunate that Nintendo did not add new content to the games beyond the visual refresh.
