Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is the definitive version of the nearly 20-year-old classic, adding Rollback Netcode and crossplay, as well as an excellent offline journey mode. Despite the overpriced DLCs and a shallow, mostly empty online matchmaking mode, the gameplay remains one of the strongest aspects of the 3D fighting game genre. The game is now more accessible to newcomers thanks to the offline journey mode, but Sega needs to focus on improving online-offline integration to address long wait times and player inactivity in ranked matches.

Virtua Fighter 5 is a game that ages like fine wine. It was a great game way back when it released almost 20 years and this new rendition, R.E.V.O. World Stage, still holds up perfectly and can stand toe to toe with SF6 and Tekken 8. The downside being is that the game requires a bit of dedication in order to get a grasp of the controls and mechanics. World Stage is a great addictive mode that does feel like you’re progressing. Whether you’ve had your fill of Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8 or simply need a new challenge, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a great game that feels actually rewarding. Highly recommended.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a great game. In fact, this version should have been released back in 2021, but the improvements it brings make it a highly recommended title for both those familiar with the series and those who have never heard of it. However, there are some basic things that other major franchises in the genre already offer, and VF5 could have included them as well, such as a better presentation for the Training mode, more freedom in customization, and the ability to edit the playlist played during matches.
