Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reviews
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is chaotic and complex, yet still a highly entertaining fighting game with one of the most beautiful portrayals of superheroes we’ve ever seen.

In terms of gameplay and presentation, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls delivers an excellent experience. Both Marvel fans and fighting game enthusiasts should find plenty to enjoy here. The single-player modes are also fun and serve as a good introduction to the characters, after which you can hone your skills in the well-equipped training mode and across the vast online world. Unfortunately, the severe performance issues on PC have only been partially resolved after a week, which detracts from what is otherwise an extremely polished overall package for this 4v4 fighter.

Arc System Works has made a tag team fighter whose best ideas sit in its unique structure rather than its roster. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls asks a lot of your memory and time, but the payoff is worth it in the end.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is one of Arc System Works' best games to date, delivering a coherent, friendly, and fun fighting game for everyone.
Arc System Works had a big task to live up to the Marvel Vs Capcom series, but Marvel TOKON: Fighting Souls offers the strongest foundation possible to become a new FGC pillar.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is not just a game that capitalizes on Marvel’s characters and heroes; it offers a fresh take on the fighting game genre through the unique style of Arc System Works, with a distinctive art direction and a fast, enjoyable combat system. It’s an exceptional experience worth diving into, especially for Marvel and fighting game fans.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is everything it needed to be. The character designs and roster are fantastic, with deep skill expression for those willing to put in the time while being approachable to new players. It’s stuffed with content that actually rewards you with different colorways for playing.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a great fighting game, one of the best this generation, with flashy combat and easy to play but hard to master gameplay, that is unfortunately a bit held back by a lackluster single-player offering.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a triumph across the board, at least for the PS5 version. Arc System Works has managed to craft a truly excellent fighting game, combining monumental art direction with impeccable fluidity. The introduction of the shared health bar and dual control scheme make the learning curve accessible to anyone, without compromising the extraordinary technical depth required for high-level matches, which is essential for a title that relies almost entirely on multiplayer. A great title for all fighting game fans and fans of the Marvel Universe.

I feel like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls had a lot to prove to live up to similar fighters that came before it, but it absolutely nails the licensed fighting game formula with its deep combat, rewarding mechanics, welcoming approach to newcomers, and stunning visuals. Arc System Works have truly delivered an exceptional brawler here, proving that Marvel’s heroes and villains don’t need to be part of a crossover to make their mark on the fighting game genre.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls combines stunning Arc System Works artistry with an accessible yet remarkably deep 4v4 combat system. A few chaotic moments aside, its excellent roster, learning tools and surprisingly strong single-player content make it one of the most complete fighting games in years.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is the complete package for Marvel diehards and tag fighters alike. Top-tier presentation, incredibly rewarding single-player modes, and a welcoming onboarding system that makes learning the ropes feel genuinely fun. While launch-window netcode hiccups, unoptimized crossplay, and clunky PC performance keep it from achieving immediate must-buy status, the foundational gameplay underneath is solid enough to stick with it. Once ArcSys irons out the online kinks, Tokon has all the makings of a mainstay that will keep the FGC hooked for years to come.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls unquestionably establishes itself as an absolute masterpiece of the fighting game genre and as the perfect embodiment of the modern vision championed by Arc System Works over the past decade. The game achieves the incredible feat of combining immediate, spectacular accessibility with a layered, deep, and multifaceted combat system. We’re willing to bet it will become a benchmark for the global competitive scene. The only real cloud hanging over the game remains the optimization of the PC version and its impact on the stability of cross-play matches. However, this issue does not stem from inherent flaws in the product or the netcode itself. Rather, it stems from a series of questionable decisions by Sony (a general trend that has been recurring a bit too often lately, but which is beyond the scope of this review). For this reason, we do not feel it is appropriate here to penalize an otherwise excellent development effort in our rating. We sincerely hope that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible through dedicated fixes. Setting aside this technical issue, we’re looking at an extraordinary game that’s visually stunning and incredibly fun.

When combat is at its best, and you succeed in summoning your team members at the right time, starting a combo of attacks that combines your characters' abilities, the game delivers some of the most enjoyable and thrilling combat moments in fighting games of this generation.

Overall Marvel Tokon is a blast to play as a fighter. The game looks fantastic, its combo system is fun and it pays great respect to the rich lore of Marvel with how the characters are designed to fight. While a couple things do hold it back from perhaps standing with Arc Sys all time great fighters, it’s another good game in the current line up of fighting games that doesn’t seem to stop growing.
"Marvel Fighting with a Distinct Identity: Arc System Works" Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls succeeds in building its own identity rather than simply imitating other Marvel fighting games, thanks to a deep combat system, four-fighter squads, and support elements that add a clear strategic layer. This is complemented by exceptional visuals, diverse content, and a polished PlayStation 5 experience.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls hooked me despite being a fighting-game novice with little interest in Marvel these days. Its striking audiovisual presentation, fresh anime-inspired takes on iconic characters and excellent haptic feedback make every chaotic fight feel impactful. The accessible yet deep combat system and diverse roster are the game’s biggest strengths. However, online play still has technical issues, Arcadia Rumble is a complete misfire, and the otherwise enjoyable story mode could have benefited from a more creative narrative. Despite these shortcomings, the overall package works. Fighting-game and Marvel fans can jump in without hesitation. And if you’ve lost touch with Marvel over the years, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls might just reignite your love for it – it certainly did for me.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls delivers some of the most electrifying team-based combat the fighting game genre has seen in years, with a roster where every fighter feels genuinely distinct and a shared health bar system that reinvents what 4v4 battles can be. It's not perfect, the onboarding curve is steep and its premium price tag paired with a paid Year 1 character pass is a real barrier for a genre that lives or dies by its player base, but once everything clicks, this is one of the most rewarding fighters in recent memory.

As a Marvel fighting game developed outside its longtime Capcom partnership, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is an extremely solid, deep, flashy, and fun fighting game that can stand up to current titans like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. The ambitious 4‑vs‑4 system proves manageable with practice, offering depth without overwhelming players, and on the PS5 it delivers a smooth, visually striking experience. The drawback lies in its limited offline single‑player features, making it best suited for those who thrive in competitive online play, along with a currently shoddy PC port that will hopefully receive patches to improve its performance.
Marvel Tokon shines thanks to the electrifying gameplay from Arc System Works. Combined with its visual and audio elements, it creates a fast-paced, accessible, and incredibly fun experience. However, the offline modes are underwhelming, the stages are few and far between, and no one would mind having more characters.
