Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes pretty close to hitting the bullseye for me. It is absolutely stunning from an audiovisual standpoint, while its story mode is also top-notch in terms of both writing and style, despite its repetition in different episodes. Its mechanics are engaging and fun, but the game is also fairly complex and consequently rather frantic – fortunately, there are plenty of incentives to learn its intricacies. And no, this certainly isn’t Marvel vs. Capcom, but then again, it doesn’t need to be.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is, without a doubt, the best treatment a Marvel-based game has ever received. It successfully combines an accessible combat system that is easy to learn with genuine depth for players who want to master it, while also delivering an excellent variety of game modes and a strong launch roster.

Arc System Works nailed Tokon and showed once again why they are one of the best in the genre. While it’s too soon to know if this game will perfectly fill the tag team Marvel void in the fighting game community, it launched with a respectable package perfect for everyone.

The potential of the title packaged by Arc System Works, however, is indisputable : it has everything it needs to establish itself on the competitive scene, but also to simply remain a reference fighting game for less experienced players who simply want to have fun with their favorite characters in a title with extremely high production values that, above all else, respects and honors its origins.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an accessible and highly entertaining fighting game. While its launch roster feels a bit limited and seems poised to rely heavily on paid content, its gameplay and impressive visual presentation make it a thoroughly enjoyable title for fans of the genre.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls really took me by surprise. The anime style is stunning, the Marvel characters are brilliantly rendered, and technically the game runs exceptionally smoothly. Even when the screen descends into utter chaos with attacks, assists and combos, everything stays neatly in place. The accessible combat is also a major asset. You don’t need to be a fighting game expert to enjoy it straight away, whilst there seems to be plenty of scope to develop your skills further. The short Episode mode is undoubtedly a downside. An hour and a half is simply not enough. Whether the game remains engaging in the long term will depend mainly on the online community and how deeply players can delve into the combat.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an excellent fighting game that needed only one attempt to establish itself among the very best the genre has to offer. The talented development studio has transformed years of experience into an outstanding title that will appeal to both casual fighting game players and true fans of the genre.

Arc System Works has poured an incredible amount of passion into the project, and that enthusiasm is evident in nearly every aspect of the game. Its ambitious combat and obvious affection for Marvel come together to make Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls one of the standout games of the year.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls really doesn't make it easy for me to rate it. So many design choices are questionably poor, and the online mode is terrible. The whole game is brimming with wasted potential, … but otherwise, it's really good. It's fun, it has great characters, outstanding presentation, nice modes, and even the story is good.

Marvel Tokon is a brilliantly executed tag team fighter that just works perfectly for newcomers and veterans alike. Each character comes with a fighting style group and a unique set of abilities, making each fight a fresh situation to tackle. The art style does great justice to the universe, along with voice-overs that do much better in the Japanese version. The matchmaking is quite good in terms of skills, but it’s hard to find players, possibly because of the network bug or maybe a low player count. Overall, the PS Store price of 3,999 is definitely better than the launch price of Tekken 8 at 4,799 for the disc edition.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls manages to carve out its own space among Marvel fighting games. The 4v4 system works very well, and Arc System Works’ art direction perfectly matches the characters. The single-player content could be more robust, but especially online, there is a solid foundation for those who plan to spend many hours learning and refining their teams.

MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls really nailed pretty much everything it needed to get right out of the gate, and most of the aspects that are floundering can still be tuned up to the high standards of the rest with updates. This is a hell of a fighting game that stands up to the storied greats in the tag fighter subgenre, many of which were built with the help of Marvel anyway.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a team-based fighting game that delivers an accessible, fast-paced, and extremely fun experience, featuring impressive visuals, a strong roster, and excellent Brazilian Portuguese voice acting. Although the short campaign eventually becomes repetitive and the auto-combo system slightly limits freedom during combat, the overall package works very well and provides highly satisfying matches.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls comes highly recommended because it successfully combines spectacle, accessibility, and depth, offering one of the most engaging fighting game experiences available today. Its combat system has a lot of potential, the roster is put to great use, and both the single-player content and online options provide plenty of reasons to keep playing. However, it’s true that some of its mechanics can feel overwhelming during the first few hours. All in all, I’m confident that this is the next fighting game that will define an era in competitive gaming.

It should be clear that 'Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls' is a successful tag team fighter. Casuals can hold spectacular battles perfectly well with auto combos, and the Tony Starks can go wild with all the bizarrely named mechanics. The game looks great, sounds good, feels good, and plays wonderfully. Fortunately, developer Arc System Works is not averse to supporting games for a long time, so there will likely be enough unique characters to make the current roster of “only” 21 even stronger.
