Star Fox returns with a remake that features excellent controls and a visual and cinematic ambition befitting the year 2026. It’s a straightforward, intense, and highly replayable arcade experience that introduces some truly tough new challenges and a surprisingly fun multiplayer mode. The campaign might feel short if you’re just looking for a quick playthrough, but the game is much more than that.

Star Fox is a solid remake that brings the N64 classic into the modern era with gorgeous visuals and sharper controls, even if it still struggles with the original’s limited content and familiar repetition.

Star Fox is the best version of this game ever made, and it proves the franchise has more than enough fuel left for an original sequel. Velan Studios showed the franchise still flies, and Nintendo’s growing Switch 2 library would be better with a fully original Star Fox in it.

This is as close to a perfect 1:1 remake as you could ask for. Star Fox feels and looks exactly how my brain remembered the game back in 1997. Every detail has been touched up to make for a modern experience while leaving the core gameplay loop intact. I would prefer if we had more shiny new toys to play with but when they refreshed the old toy this good, it’s hard to complain. The new cutscenes and dialogue bring the characters to life like never before. The orchestral arrangements of the legendary soundtrack are chef’s kiss. This is also a surprise graphical showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2. Velan Studios did an amazing job, and I hope to see them stick with the franchise the way Grezzo has with Zelda and MercurySteam with Metroid. Star Fox is back. Next time, let’s take him to new heights.

Star Fox for the Nintendo Switch 2 is the ultimate way to experience this gem from the 1990s, revitalised thanks to its superb visuals and cutscenes that take the storyline to a whole new level – one that no other version even comes close to. Although the gameplay hasn’t received the same level of attention, and is starting to show its 30 years a little, and whilst the campaign’s length may not appeal to players simply looking to see the credits roll, this is a successful reboot that provides a fresh launchpad for Fox McCloud and the rest of the Star Fox squad to blast off towards stardom with several hours of solid fun.

Star Fox may be another remake of Star Fox 64, but it’s a relentlessly enjoyable master stroke of a remake. The sharp, timelessly fluid gameplay and quick pace are a grand reminder of why the original game has remained so iconic, while the updated aesthetic and multiplayer help keep it from feeling like too much of a retread. Even if you’ve played Star Fox 64 in the past, I think you’ll get a lot of this latest (and ideally, final) remake.

Star Fox 64 is not the best rail-shooter ever made (that distinction belongs to Sin & Punishment: Star Successor), but it is up there. I have no idea how well you personally will agree with that, but I do know that sitting here replaying it again, I remember how much fun that original game was. It kind of makes me happy that someone who had never even heard of the N64 original could feel like that today.

Star Fox on Switch 2 is a faithful and well-crafted remake of one of Nintendo's classics that does a wonderful job of bringing a classic into the present without sacrificing its essence. Beautiful graphics and overall thoughtful changes have made this the best iteration of Star Fox yet.

I was one of the first to bemoan a remake of Star Fox 64, despite how much I love the original. But with amazing upgrades to the visuals and music, the fleshing out of the main cast, and great challenge modes, Star Fox will likely become one of my most-played games this year, despite wanting a bit more from the rest of the cast and the online multiplayer.

Velan Studios has done something remarkable: rebuilt one of Nintendo's most beloved classics piece by piece with respect and skill, adding enough new content to make it more than a nostalgia trip. This is the definitive version of Star Fox — and if this is truly the beginning of a new chapter for Fox McCloud, the Lylat System's future has never looked brighter.

Star Fox overall is a fantastic remake of one of the best games of all time. Its gameplay loop remains highly replayable, it’s a great entry for those who’ve never played while the additional challenge modes are sure to keep veterans busy as well. While it could use a bit more on its multiplayer and revisiting aquas may not be fun, those are small complaints to say the least.

The Star Fox remake gives Nintendo’s furry ace a slick new coat of paint, but you’ll be (barrel) rolling credits before you’ve even had time to settle into the cockpit.

It occurs to me that if Star Fox Zero never happened, I’d probably be a lot kinder to this remake. A lot of Star Fox 2026 is what I want from a proper remake of Star Fox 64, but it’s still Star Fox 64. Again. Some of the rough edges are sanded down, but they’re still there. Even $50 is pushing it for what it has to offer. To anyone at Nintendo or Valen Studios who would listen, I beg of you. No more remakes. Take what you have here and build on it with a new installment. Let this franchise finally step out of Star Fox 64‘s shadow again. Or, if you must do another remake, do Star Fox 2. That game needs a remake even more than Star Fox 64 did. Or bury the franchise for good. At this point, I don’t care which.

I have a huge amount of admiration for Star Fox; the graphics and music are truly stunning and worthy of accolades. However, this is not a movie, and whilst some missions are good fun to blast through, the repetition eventually starts to feel draining. Ultimately, this is a game I will barrel roll into now and then for a quick shoot ’em up, rather than chill out with for a long, dedicated gaming session.

Star Fox (2026) absolutely proves that the Lylat System is still worth saving, whether you’re completely new to the franchise or revisiting it after one of its many past iterations. It pairs incredibly fun flight gameplay with modern visuals to create a more than worthwhile experience. While each individual run is short, the branching paths and other differences between each campaign provide plenty of replayability and ensure that the path to Venom feels different each time. On top of that, it comes packed with additional challenges and modes to play. It isn’t entirely flawless, of course. Teammates that act more like flying targets at times and how the alternate vehicles feel to control are downsides. But they remain fairly minor issues in the grand scheme of things.

Star Fox is the glorious return of a childhood classic. With gameplay that is just as smooth as ever, a new Challenge Mode to take on, and an expanded cinematic story, it is exactly the game fans of the series have been waiting for. While a few minor issues hold it back, it is still a must-play, and the perfect entry point for newcomers. Welcome back Star Fox Team! We missed you!

Star Fox is about to get a lovely tribute on Nintendo Switch 2 with one of the best achievements in interactive video game history. Velan Studios has created the ideal arcade experience, fiercely nostalgic and excitingly contemporary, by refusing to dilute the mechanical purity that made the original design universally beloved.

Star Fox on the Nintendo Switch 2 is a remake with two faces. For players who have never played the original, this is undoubtedly the best way to get acquainted with one of Nintendo's most unique franchises. Despite its age, the gameplay still feels surprisingly fresh, the arcade setup works excellently, and the audiovisual presentation is among the best the Switch 2 currently has to offer. For fans, the story is slightly different. The remake is so faithful to the original that there are hardly any surprises to be found. Everything that once made Star Fox 64 great is still present, but virtually nothing goes a step further. Nevertheless, it remains a high-quality Nintendo production that shows why Star Fox 64 has been considered a classic for nearly thirty years. Not an instant classic in itself, but certainly the definitive version of a timeless classic.

Star Fox is the worthy remake of Lylat Wars, the most popular game in the franchise featuring the adventures of McCloud and its crew. A campaign that will look short if you only plan to make one run, but will find interest in its replayability. Different branches to explore other alternative planets and script sequences, abounding challenges that bring challenge and that will feed the most complete veterans, and content in cooperation or 4v4 that will boost the dynamics of the game. Nintendo has just delivered, irreproachably, an example to revive a classic in its catalog
