Star Fox Reviews
In the end, Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 is a perfectly good remake of a perfectly good space shooter. Sure, blasting across the Lylat system is amazing thanks to the unbelievable fidelity that all returning planets possess, while the addition of fully voiced cutscenes help deepen the story of Fox McCloud defending the galaxy from Emperor Andross by a surprising amount.
Star Fox remains a fast, addictive, and wonderfully replayable arcade shooter, now enhanced by charming cinematic cutscenes, excellent orchestral music, and a remarkably polished 60 FPS presentation on Switch 2. The lack of meaningful changes to the campaign makes this feel overly familiar for longtime fans, but for newcomers, it is easily the best way to discover the series.

Despite knowing nearly all Star Fox 64’s shortcuts and secrets for close to 30 years now, this remake’s impressive coat of paint and compelling new cutscenes made me smile like I just did my very first barrel roll.
Velan's conservative but accomplished remake goes all-in on spectacle to much success, even if the script could do with some wit.
But having played and fallen in love with it, I’m confident in saying this is exactly what Star Fox needed and the definitive way to experience an all-time classic.
At the same time, the original still holds up very well, and if you have Switch Online with the Expansion Pass, you can already play it. That makes this hard to recommend, which is a shame. If Nintendo means this to be a new beginning for Star Fox, retreading familiar ground undermines the effort.
It’s nice to have the Star Fox crew back, even if it isn’t in the most ambitious of games. Although it's certainly one of Nintendo's prettiest.
Overall, Star Fox is a very faithful remake of Star Fox 64, with added depth and complexity for how you tackle the branched mission structure. It also looks wonderful throughout, and the lifelike character renditions hit me right in the childhood. So if, like me, you grew up with these games, you will absolutely love this remake. Although I feel newer players may find it functionally a tad old school.
In the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Star Fox, Nintendo and developer Velan Studios have reimagined the classic Star Fox 64 for a new hardware.
Star Fox on the Switch 2 is a triumphant return for Fox McCloud and a spectacular technical showcase for the new console. While the underwhelming multiplayer modes and short run time hold it back from perfection, the stunning visual upgrades and incredibly responsive dual-stick controls make this the definitive way to experience this classic adventure.
Star Fox on Switch 2 is a sublime remaster of Star Fox 64, and that's both its best and worst feature. This is Fox's best game made even better, with a stunning visual overhaul, snappy controls, and some neat reasons to keep playing thanks to the new challenges and online modes. That said, it is just '64' again, and those who have already played through the '97 classic hundreds of times won't find any surprises here. If, however, this is your first run-in with Fox McCloud, I struggle to think of a better introduction to the series. And if you know the game like the back of your hand, you're in for a replay unlike any other. The series' future looked bleak for a second there, but if this is a taste of what the next original adventure holds, then I've never been more ready to fire up the G-Diffuser.
As it stands, this is a great re-introduction for the franchise and will hopefully help kickstart the return of Star Fox.
An excellent remake that retains everything that was great about the N64 original and adds just the right amount of quality of life improvement to keep it fun for modern audiences – even if it still leaves the franchise with an uncertain future.
Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 faithfully recreates the N64 classic with new additions like cinematic cutscenes, online battle modes, mouse aiming gameplay, and songs that will be stuck in your head for weeks to come.
What is clear is that it was a great game on Nintendo 64 and 3DS and, thanks to that timeless gameplay, this remake of Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 is also great .

Star Fox is a fairly safe remaster, and for fans of the original there's a lot here to love, especially the incredible audio-visual upgrade. The central mode is showing its age mechanically, though, and without the power of nostalgia, I'm interested to see how people respond to its classic on-rails action. Meanwhile, the online mode is deserving of your and your friends' time, but you have to hope that some extra attention is poured into it post-launch.
Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 is the best way to experience the classic Star Fox story, but it's a story we've heard too many times before.
Nintendo's arcade shooter remains a classic, and its Switch 2 version adds stunning visuals, a fantastic orchestral soundtrack, and brilliant cinematic touches that elevate the experience. While I'd have liked a little more care put into restoring its smaller parts, the Switch 2 remake is otherwise a fantastic way to discover or revisit a classic.
Star Fox has had its share of remakes.
Velan Studios has created a respectful but not timid remake, enhancing one of Nintendo's most important works without distorting its essence.
