STARBITES Reviews
Starbites pairs charming writing and strong performances with a cozy, low‑pressure combat loop, making for a heartfelt RPG that asks little but starts slow.
STARBITES is a title that is exactly in the middle: a fun turn-based JRPG with an excellent combat system which however clashes with the low budget and not always refined nature of the experience.

STARBITES is a terrific game with a lot of heart for fans of turn-based RPGs, anime-inspired adventures, and sci-fi realms after the end of the planet.
A few quirky characters and some turn-based battles struggle to hide that Starbites is a very middling JRPG far more concerned with silly banter than a compelling plot. It's passable salvage, but there's better out there if you know where to look.
STARBITES has a lot going for it. The combat is fun, easily the most consistent and entertaining aspect of the game, as it should be. The story is serviceable, carried by cool, funny characters and a decent, gradual upscaling of stakes relative to them. The things that bothered me with this game were not fundamental enough to keep me from playing to the very end, and that makes for an overall, convincing win. It has ample charisma, a good message, and plenty of heart.
There's a seed of a good game in STARBITES, with a very fun combat and interesting world, however it didn't bloom when planted in this desert.

There are many RPG titles hitting the market, making it important that new releases bring interesting new features. Starbites is a competent game, with charismatic visuals and fun gameplay mechanics. The story is a bit convoluted, but delivers an adventure interesting enough to be explored to the end, especially in terms of the characters. The combat is quite good, with mostly traditional and well-implemented options. The Driver's High feature works in a limited way, serving more as an extra mechanic than a major innovation. It illustrates the game as a whole: good ideas and competent basic implementation (sometimes a bit slow), but without anything particularly noteworthy. In the end, it's a good choice, especially for RPG fans.

There are plenty of enjoyable moments involving the character interactions or when the combat and exploration get into a good rhythm, but it never really takes that extra step needed to stick in the memory. Nonetheless, it’s an enjoyable enough way to spend the time, and there’s a strong base for IKINAGAMES to be able to build upon going forward.
STARBITES delivers a charming cast of characters, satisfying mech customization, and nostalgic turn-based combat. Despite technical hiccups, this sci-fi RPG feels like a hidden gem for old-school RPG fans.
