Even with the visual downgrades on big screens and the walled-off matchmaking, this is easily the best portable basketball game ever made. Giving us real mechanics and a rock-solid 60fps instead of half-baked compromises makes this an absolute no-brainer for portable hoopers.
NBA 2K27 once again proves why it remains the premier basketball title, even if the series continues to evolve in small, incremental steps. The on‑court experience is as polished as ever, with stronger defensive play, new shooting and finishing mechanics that reward skill and smart decision‑making, and gameplay depth that still outclasses every other sports title. However, familiar issues persist, especially the push for ads and microtransactions that, while optional, can ruin the experience. Even so, NBA 2K27 delivers hundreds of hours of content, superb visuals, and the most authentic basketball gameplay available today.
NBA 2K27 is easily one of the strongest entries the series has delivered in years. The refined ProPLAY gameplay, historical MyCAREER Eras, co-ed City and deeper MyPLAYER builder are backed by meaningful improvements across MyNBA, MyTEAM, The W and MyWNBA. Combined with responsive controls, excellent graphics and authentic sound design, this is a seriously impressive basketball experience that kept giving me reason to return to the court.
NBA 2K27 refines the series with smarter defense, more natural animations, improved shooting mechanics, and a more approachable learning curve, making it a strong entry for both longtime players and newcomers.

NBA 2K27 remains an excellent basketball simulation and has enough new features to justify its existence. Unfortunately, the further you step away from the court, the more some of the franchise’s foundational elements begin to show their age. The MyCAREER cutscenes need a serious overhaul, The City is slowly losing its appeal, facial scanning remains imprecise, and monetization is still far too pervasive. So, it’s a good installment—at times even excellent—but one that improves many aspects without necessarily addressing the ones that needed it most.

On the contrary, it continues to offer the best basketball experience on the market when it comes to on-court gameplay, and almost all of the ideas it introduces this year are the right moves. NBA 2K27 reaffirms the Visual Concepts-developed series as a benchmark in the sports video game landscape. The extensive selection of modes available, both online and offline, the depth of each one, the variety of options on offer, and the technical presentation are the main strengths of a title that, while not differing all that much from its predecessor, still introduces some welcome new features—most notably, the revamped defensive system. Some of the issues already present in previous installments remain, above all an overly prominent presence of microtransactions (not essential, but highly advantageous), a consequently divisive multiplayer component, and some animations that we found outdated. Nonetheless, this is a deep and rewarding game that demonstrates how the developers are able to listen to community feedback and take meaningful steps forward in the areas where players have highlighted shortcomings.

NBA 2K27 is another impressive entry in a franchise that continues to find ways of keeping itself relevant. It doesn’t reinvent basketball, nor does it need to. Instead, it improves the areas that matter, adds some excellent new ideas and gives players an enormous amount of basketball to get stuck into. Fire and Concrete is a particularly welcome addition, the improved defensive gameplay makes every possession feel more satisfying, and Running Mate adds a genuinely enjoyable cooperative element to the career experience. MyNBA Legacy is packed with depth, The City continues to offer an almost ridiculous amount of content, and the presentation remains among the best you will find in a sports game. There are still frustrations, most notably the microtransactions, and some players may feel that the yearly nature of the franchise means the improvements aren’t quite substantial enough. But for anyone who loves basketball and wants a game that can provide hundreds of hours of entertainment, NBA 2K27 is incredibly easy to recommend. It might not be a revolution, but it is one hell of a basketball game.
NBA 2K27 is shaping up to be a serious contender for Sports Game of the Year, with the other major sports titles still to come. 2K and Visual Concepts have done an excellent job of balancing the gameplay formula, expanding it with new modes and interesting additions that help make this edition more complete than ever.

It’s impossible to write a review for NBA 2K27, or any of its many predecessors, without sounding like a scratched record.
