A Hat in Time Reviews
A Hat in Time is a fun an colorful platformer with plenty of things to do. You're looking at around 7 to 9 hours to complete the game based on skill, and some extra hours on top of that for trophy hunters who want to add a new Platinum to their collection. The fun gameplay mechanics, charming voice acting, and solid music, come together to give us a solid platformer collect-a-ton on PlayStation 4 you should definitely check out.
A Hat is Time is a truly charming game. It does not quite have the polish of Nintendo or Rare's greats, but the sheer amount of originality and care that went into it makes it a must-play for platforming fans.
A Hat in Time doesn't reinvent the 3D platforming wheel, but it walks it with such confidence and panache that it would be criminal to overlook this game.
Charming, playful, and scrappy as a sweep's stovepipe, A Hat in Time has its ups and downs, but if it can win your heart, it's well worth the ride. A modern platformer that can truly hold its own.
While no single component is particularly revolutionary or unfamiliar to the genre, this is an extremely memorable platforming experience that, unlike its main collect-a-thon rival this year, never feels laboured. This is down to a nicely streamlined but still deep hub and world structure, in conjunction with so many neat touches and playful twists on the collect-a-thon formula. From start to finish, it's charming and funny, with excellent art design and gorgeous visuals. The music from Pascal Michael Stiefel is brilliant (although it's a shame that only two tracks were contributed by Grant Kirkhope in the end) while the use of real dialogue definitely makes things livelier and more engrossing. Through all this, its sheer charm and its gratifying gameplay mechanics, A Hat in Time affords itself the ability to do what it wants, and ensures that it really goes the distance. It never overindulges in nostalgia or tribute, and it makes sure to poke fun at itself, as well as the rest, along the way. It's a collect-a-thon gem, if ever there was one.
This is a game with undeniable soul and an incredible amount of shine considering its budget. There's very little that A Hat in Time can't do as a classic platformer, and it really throws itself into creating a cute and cohesive universe for you to explore. The replayability of the title is great, and you'll get a lot of mileage revisiting older levels and finding hidden areas as you knit yourself a veritable treasure trove of superpowered hats over time.
A Hat in Time is a timeless adventure of epic proportions. An old school platforming game with a twist. A classic that will be one of the most memorable games in existence. I recommend these for people who misses the good ol’ days and have been waiting to get their hands on a game that plays similarly to games like Super Mario 64. It can definitely satiate the feeling of anticipation as we wait for Super Mario Odyssey to be released.
A Hat in Time is a charming adventure with four wonderfully crafted and unique worlds.
When it comes to 3D platformers and you’re looking to release on the console that Mario helped make you’d better be ready to deliver...
Ultimately A Hat in Time is a quirky platformer featuring a stellar cast of characters, unique levels that are fun to explore and balanced gameplay. However, the Nintendo Switch version has an inconsistent frame rate, a poor camera system and long load times which put it behind other versions.
A Hat In Time’s Switch port is sadly the worst way to play the game, however, beneath all its bugs and poor visuals, it’s the same aggressively fun and ruthlessly charming platformer. Its nine-hour runtime is filled with fluid gameplay, hilarious characters and diverse set of levels that toy around with the genre in the best way possible. A Hat In Time is simply one of the best platformers in years, and it’s worth dealing with the Switch’s technical limitations to experience.
GREAT - If you were waiting for this game to appear on the Switch library to play it – play it. It is still an absolute joy to experience. Technical issues aside, this unique indie gem stacks up even against Nintendo’s most iconic titles. If you’re still looking for that true love letter to fans of late 90’s platforming, you owe it to yourself to check out A Hat in Time.
This is a lovely game with a dedicated button for blowing kisses. It may not be the best it’s ever been here, but A Hat in Time on Switch is most definitely still cute as heck and worth taking notice of.
A Hat in Time is a witty, colourful game with tonnes of variety. It's one of the best 3D platformers I've played in quite a while and succeeded where Playtonics Yooka Laylee didn't. The game has taken everything we loved about the games from the golden era of 3D platforming and updated it to modern standards without being locked in the past.
Billed as a “Cute-as-heck platformer” it delivers on that promise. It has great platforming, level design, and gameplay, but it doesn’t have a cohesive feeling to tackle the big dogs.
A Hat in Time is one of the better Kickstarter platformers that have come out to date. The world is colorful and full of areas to explore. The enemies are challenging, with bosses that are no pushovers. The replay value of the game is very high due to the number of areas that can be reached once you find and make appropriate hats. Overall, this is a platformer that you don't want to miss!
What a great game, A Hat in Time was just enjoyable and ever so charming featuring this lovely tale that anyone could enjoy.
A Hat in Time is an incredibly fun and incredibly charming throwback to classic collect-a-thon platformers. While it has some visual issues and a sometimes wonky camera, none of these issues can stop A Hat in Time from being an adorably fun time.
Cute-as-heck callback to the platformers of old. If you don't like it, get lost.
