Not the best version of Doom, but it is the most portable.

Doom was already a fantastic game when it released last year, but being able to take it anywhere with relatively few technical concessions is truly a testament to not only its developers but also the Switch itself. This may not be the definitive version of Doom, but it is without a doubt the most versatile. It's also much better than the Super Nintendo version.

DOOM for the Nintendo Switch is a solid FPS that doesn't compromise the core gameplay during the transition. Both the campaign and online multiplayer are a blast to play, however, the absence of Snap Map doesn't go unnoticed. The game's performance is generally solid, even if it does have the occasional frame rate dip and texture issues.

Bethesda’s early commitment to Nintendo’s latest console must be commended and this excellent port is a great way to kick off their promised stream of Switch releases. If you missed out on the demon-slaying action back in 2016, it’s the perfect time to hop into the Doom Marine’s shoes. Whether it’s time for a taunt or a brutish kill, Doom’s got you covered on Switch.

For those that already played through Doom on other platforms, getting the game for Nintendo Switch isn’t a must buy in the way that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was. Even so, this is a very admirable port that gives Switch owners another AAA option to pick up just in time for the holidays.

On the whole, I found DOOM quite difficult game to score. It’s a port that looks completely and utterly underwhelming on the TV and yet probably stands as the best first-person shooter out there that can be played natively and conveniently so well on the go. Some will either love or hate the Metroid Prime-style platforming and losing track on where to go next, but one thing’s for sure is that the game itself stays very faithful to the series and makes old-school first-person shooter feel predominantly new and fresh again. Even cranking up the difficulty feels extremely rewarding when you finally learn to successfully ride the angry waves of its kinetic flow. Bag all that up with tons of upgrades, stacks full of secrets, easter eggs, toys, and the tricky yet hopelessly addictive rune trial challenges and you have an immersive shooter that you can rock out to whilst sat on a rooftop.

Doom is a fast-paced, blood-soaked first-person shooter which pitches you in an exhilarating war against the hordes from hell. While some concessions have been made in order to make it run on the Switch, it is still pretty much the same Doom game. With almost exactly the same content as the console version, it's made all the better for its portability.

We swear on our double chainsaw that we'd have loved to give DOOM on Switch a higher score: the game is the one we already loved in every possible version ever released, brutal and crazy, but the technical compromises are important, and cannot be put aside. It Switch is your only game console, this is a must buy; if you own another gamign platform, you'll find a better experience there.

The arrival of DOOM on Nintendo Switch is an achievement that must be celebrated by playing. Panic Button has done a wonderful work with the id Tech 6 engine that captures, most of the time, the complete and ultra-violent experience of one of the best FPS in recent time.

DOOM on Nintendo Switch runs a fantastically fun, playable version of our favorite console shooter, but it can't be denied that optimizations and the lower framerate make for a less pretty, slightly rougher version of the game. Despite that, if you want a handheld version of DOOM, I still can't help but recommend it. It plays well for the most part and is still loads of fun and a refreshing experience, even a year and a half later.

Doom arrives to Nintendo Switch with lots of blood, the same experience we lived in PS4, Xbox One & PC, and an important graphics-downgrade in order to make it fin in the tiny portable/hybrid Nintendo Switch console.

Almost everything I wanted out of the port, but it is only worth picking up if you plan on playing handheld only.

DOOM for Nintendo Switch is a revelation. It’s important not just because it gives Switch owners a hardcore shooter to play. It also demonstrates what the Switch is capable of.

Doom 64's remaster is essentially the same experience players got back in 1997. After nearly 24 years, does it still hold its own against contemporary shooters?

A seemingly impossible port is carried off surprisingly gracefully, with the old school shooter action working very well as a handheld game.

If you want to play Doom on a big screen, this version is the worst choice by far. If you on the other hand prefer to kill demons on the bus, Doom for Nintendo Switch is a great choice. Despite some very noticeable cutbacks the core of Doom is still there - and it's thoroughly enjoyable.

DOOM is a technological marvel to behold on the Switch, and the fact that id Software got it working at all seems like a miracle. But the magic comes with some heavy concessions, making DOOM on Nintendo's handheld a more difficult recommendation for Switch players than any other platform.

If Nintendo Switch is not a PS4 or an Xbox One, DOOM succeeds, by making some sacrifices, to stay the almost same as it was on its initial release. Especially on TV, it feels like a downgraded experience but is definitely a great shooter that's worth it if you haven't played it or you feel the desire to kill demons wherever you go.
