Metal Gear Survive offers some ideas in a way that does not fit into survival games, such as forcing the player to open the main menu every minute to follow the level of hunger and thirst, and enter into conversations that are worth nothing but wasting time and talking to a completely fictional story will not affect anyone like the main series And limited AI for the enemies, but in contrast there were ideas implemented excellently such as clouds of dust that provided an exciting atmosphere, and the complexity of the system.

As expected the game has almost nothing in common with the Metal Gear we know and love. While it has interesting ideas and some well thought out mechanics, it ultimately fails to be fun because of overly grind-heavy and frustrating progression.

Taking gameplay mechanics and foundation of its spiritual predecessor, Metal Gear Survive is an interesting mix of survival, resource management and action game. Its constant internet connection, lack of variety and sub-par technical performance might push away some players, but it's still a solid game that could get better if properly updated over its lifespan.

Metal Gear Survive is a flawed but incredibly fun survival game that adequately takes advantage of the weirder side of the Metal Gear series. Though the game has a slow start and cliché characters, the addictive exploration and impressive amount of included content makes Survive a solid spin-off.

Metal Gear Survive has some really interesting elements, yet comes across as shallow in some areas.

Metal Gear Survive is likely to see ongoing additions to improve it, and at this point I’d recommend waiting for some of those before jumping into it. Right now it’s a survival grind in the Metal Gear universe that’s more busywork than fun and it's only the gameplay carryover from Metal Gear Solid V that make it worth a look at all.

Metal Gear Survive is a mediocre endeavour at trying to let a storied franchise meet a genre that lost steam two years ago. It feels dated in almost every aspect made worse by what feels like an under-developed game. It hardly does anything extensively bad but it doesn't attempt to do anything with the core system. It is just another crafting survival game, except it has the Metal Gear named slapped on.

I really enjoyed the time I spent with Metal Gear Survive along the 47 hours finishing the main story. With that said let's dive into Metal Gear Survive and what it does.

Verdict Building off the foundation of Metal Gear Solid V, Metal Gear Survive had some potential that was mostly squandered, though still far from being an awful game. The co-op missions with friends can be fun and the game itself performs well enough, but the tedious structure of the game and the inclusion of awful microtransactions make Metal Gear Survive one you might want to think about skipping.

It all boils down to whether or not you should buy the game. And I think that’s the worst part about it, is that there’s really no real reason to buy it. There are many more zombie shooter survival games out there that does this a whole lot better. Why buy Metal Gear Survive?

the best chance of survival that this game has, is by throwing it in as a PlayStation Plus/Games with Gold title later down the line.

Yes, it’s not your typical Metal Gear and yes, its microtransactions do more harm than good. But still, Metal Gear Survive is an interesting spin-off that manages to build tension via exploration and provides with decent base building mechanics to keep you occupied for hours.

Though it's not totally devoid of positives, Metal Gear Survive suffers the curse of being wholly unremarkable in pretty much every way. Bland survival gameplay, unoriginal ideas and unresponsive melee combat make for a tedious experience. Metal Gear Survive is certainly a functional game, but someone forgot to add the "fun".

Metal Gear Survive builds off of an excellent game to create something fundamentally different. Journeying through the dust and uncovering more of the map piece by piece is a rewardingly dangerous progression system, not unlike the save room style of Symphony of The Night or Resident Evil. Earning stronger and cooler gear while fitting out your base with bigger and better defences and resources is equally engaging, with new challenges consistently arising to replace those you’ve outgrown. It’s not a Kojima game, and it’s not a Metal Gear Solid game, but it’s a lot of fun and never fails to reward the time you put into it.

It’s a strange choice for the continuation of the series, but against all odds, it turned out great.

Metal Gear Survive is Kojima’s true phantom pain. It’s a boring grind of repetitive missions, cardboard characters, and shockingly bad AI. It may get by on the strength of its association to the Metal Gear series alone, but die-hard fans will be very disappointed with how shallow of an experience it really is.

The hardcore fans are likely to reject the not amazing story of Metal Gear Survive, however, the gameplay is exactly what you might expect from Metal Gear franchise – the military action and the possibility of stealth. Add the intense pace of the second half of the game and the enjoyable bosses and you'll end up with a slightly above average, if repetitive, title.

Metal Gear Survive is literally a double-edged sword, or at least it can be. Whoever approaches this with special expectations and the hope for a typical Metal Gear game will be bitterly disappointed. But if you're really up for a thrilling survival adventure and bite your way through the first few hours, i.e. the complete introduction and tutorial, you can really have fun with this game. Especially the long term motivation will be a decisive factor. The bottom line is that Metal Gear Survive is a solid title that suffers from the big name and some strange decisions in game design.

Metal Gear Survive takes a lot of risks foreign to the franchise. The use of survival techniques to simulate an actual life-and-death mission did provide more challenges to the adventure.
