Metal Gear Survive is Kojima’s true phantom pain. It’s a boring grind of repetitive missions, cardboard characters, and shockingly bad AI. It may get by on the strength of its association to the Metal Gear series alone, but die-hard fans will be very disappointed with how shallow of an experience it really is.

I'll tell you that this game didn't survive for long on my PS4's hard drive.

Is Metal Gear Survive worth it? Oh yeah, totally. Game of the Year. Honestly, I don't know why you haven't bought it yet! Death Stranding won't be able to compete with this. Sarcasm aside, don't buy this game, just don't. Yeah, the environments and visuals are kind of neato and the feeling of helplessness certainly comes across, but it's just a clusterfuck.

Metal Gear Survive had some potential, but there is nothing exciting here, maybe except the atmosphere. And with those offensive microtransactions it probably will not survive.

Metal Gear Survive aligns itself with too many corporate gaming shenanigans to register as unadulterated fun.

Thanks to overbearing hunger and thirst systems, unintelligent enemy AI, and an utterly forgettable story, Metal Gear Survive is the worst game in the series yet.

Ridiculous story, repetitive gameplay, boring mechanisms and force to paying money are enough reasons to stay away from this game.

Metal Gear Survive is not necessarily a poor survival game, because it has several interesting mechanics and concepts that could have been better explored in order to entertain the player. Its plot is mediocre and shows how Hideo Kojima was essential for the construction and development of the series. Unfortunately, many of the elements of the franchise are absent here, and the few that remain exist as a reminder to the player that he is playing a title belonging to the Metal Gear saga. The only reason for this title is Konami's willingness to cash in on the countless fans of the series and, if you are a fan, do yourself a favor and do not destroy your feelings for the franchise by playing this game, that ironically resembles a pachinko machine.

Baffling AI behaviour, dull environments and a stupid story mean that even as a standalone survival game, Metal Gear Survive fails on too many levels. There are far better games that deserve your money. For example, if you want a complete survival experience, then ARK: Survival Evolve or 7 days to Die are better options on the PS4.

Metal Gear Survive is a mediocre endeavour at trying to let a storied franchise meet a genre that lost steam two years ago. It feels dated in almost every aspect made worse by what feels like an under-developed game. It hardly does anything extensively bad but it doesn't attempt to do anything with the core system. It is just another crafting survival game, except it has the Metal Gear named slapped on.

As expected the game has almost nothing in common with the Metal Gear we know and love. While it has interesting ideas and some well thought out mechanics, it ultimately fails to be fun because of overly grind-heavy and frustrating progression.

Konami killed another series. Even without comparison to main Metal Gear games, Survive is a boring and uninspiring experience overall.

As a different direction for the series this isn't a bad choice and does have some interesting ideas and mechanics and the story does have its zany MGS moments, but an overall weak story and cast of characters and simplistic missions and the harsh survival elements sucks a lot of the fun of the experience.

Metal Gear Survive hadn't known where to stop. It had had a complicated structure while taking samples from several game types. It may make ones who are patient and like survivals spend some time on. This game hosts lots of contents but does not entertain enough.

From a horribly botched launch to clunky UI and a hunger/thirst meter that actively tries to kill you, there's so much this game does wrong that it's hard to focus on what Metal Gear Survive does right.

It feels like Konami were always planning to release a zombie survival game, and used Kojima’s departure to slap the Metal Gear logo and assets on it to save time. If this is the case, then the decision does neither the game nor the Metal Gear franchise any favours. Metal Gear Survive is not a great Metal Gear game, but could have been a good original game by itself.

Metal Gear Survive is the most expensive survival game on the market right now, even at a budget price as far as AAA games go. This, mixed with the fact that almost all the game is made of reused assets, makes the number of microtransactions on offer frankly disgusting, even if none are required to complete the game. Asking players to pay $10 to make a second character is the most offensive money grabbing crap I've ever seen in a video game in the history of the medium.
