When all is said and done, the handful of people sitting in the middle of the Venn diagram marked "doesn't own a PC" and "wants a hardcore train simulation" still deserve a game that isn't buggy, runs well, respects their time as a user, and one that provides more for their money than this one does. On the upside, the trains are so detailed here that if anything happens to the driver on my local route during my commute, I'm pretty confident that I could take over and nobody would be late for work. I can't promise strudel, though.

Train Sim World Founders Edition is an extensive, detailed simulator that will teach you many aspects of the process of driving trains and managing a schedule.

It delivers what it promises – a depressingly-realistic simulation of utterly boring inter-urban train transportation

Games like Train Sim World will always benefit from a greater array of content: more trains, more routes, and more services. That said, learning how each of the trains in this title work and mastering the three main disciplines will take you hours at a time, and while it's very much an acquired taste, we derived a mixture of satisfaction and relaxation from our new role as a railway operator.

As it stands, there is more than enough content to plough through in the base game and provide many hours of gameplay.

This is a strange beast. It's devoted fan base might already be satisfied by the PC release, while the console crowd may need a little more help familiarising themselves with the conventions of train operation. There's a good chance that many a player will quickly be bored to the extreme by the gameplay, but for those of us looking for an alternative to intensity and drama,

Train Sim World is an average game on PC and bad one on consoles. It has the great advantage of occupying a "niche" genre that is free of competition. Its qualities could satisfy the amateurs of railway simulation, but all the others remain at the station. It's a shame, because by modifying some elements of form and scenario it could have made the exercise attractive for a wider audience. Maybe future updates will improve it ? Unfortunately Dovetail's habit is rather to offer many expensive DLCs. We hope this will change ...

Train Sim World is a relaxing game where you operate a variety of trains as you travel to specified destinations. There is a nice selection of trains, helpful tutorials, and 17 scenarios to play through. The game isn't the most exciting experience, and sometimes leans towards monotonous and boring. If you love simulation games and trains, this might be right up your alley.

Despite the bugs, Train Sim World is an meticulously detailed and uncompromisingly accurate railroad simulator that will provide train aficionados endless hours of enjoyment.

Train Sim World isn't a conventionally exciting game, nor does it pretend to be and, to some, will remain a niche interest. It's not perfect and, given the game's multiple train models, there may be times that you'll struggle to remember how to start your vehicle of choice. But this is clearly a labour of love, by people who know their subject and it shows. If you've even the remotest interest in trains, whether as a passenger or would-be-driver you'll get a lot out of Train Sim World; hop on board and you won't be disappointed.

Reincarnation of Train Simulator is trying to appeal fans by a nice presentation, but lack of content is killing the whole game.

Many of these simulators only cater to certain crowds and Train Sim World I think will suffice for those who love this material. You will get plenty of game time out of it that's for sure but I couldn't help but feel disappointed in the lack of routes in the game. The performance issues and glitches I encountered also took away from the experience and frustrated me. If you can accept those issues then this might be a train worth boarding.

Train Sim World delivers on its promise: you'll be a train driver in many different situations. If you're looking for a building sim game, you should also check out Jurassic World Evolution, which I recently reviewed.

I'll be committed to Train Sim World for quite some time, I suspect. Give me some DLC train routes through Asia (especially Japan), and I'll be all the happier. Give me one or two routes of the Sydney network and I'll buy them just to gloat to Sydney Trains that it is possible to deliver passengers to their stops without a three hour delay. I'm oddly proud of my virtual train driving skills.

Full version, not 'founders' edition... Train Sim World is the best simulation game, based around driving a train, available on consoles to date. Okay, it may be the only one as well, but it still doesn’t affect the fact that I had a lot of fun playing it. Sure, there are issues with pop-in, texture quality, the inability to purposely die or destroy a train, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game – it’s just a little too forgiving at times. With the ability to either participate in the pre-set scenarios or just go crazy in the Services mode, there is a lot of content here which will keep any locomotive fan happy for many hours.

Dovetail Games has a tagline of “made by rail fans, for rail fans”. This summarizes everything you need to know about who the audience is. Dovetail Games know simulation games, and Train Sim World is no exception. This is a deep and varied simulation of being a train engineer, whether you’re carrying passengers or cargo. Train Sim World is childhood fantasies brought to gaming with incredible detail.
