Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics presents itself as competent with solid gameplay, but is very much lacking in character or depth to keep you playing beyond one playthrough. The framework is there but its crying out for more in the way of variety that could be fixed with some decent DLC content.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a great attempt at a Tactical RPG based within the Achtung! Cthulhu universe. Sure, the game has a few flaws in regards to its obstructive camera, lack of save options and spikes in difficulty, but it also has a lot of positives going for it as well. The combination of the realistic and the fantastical is very interesting and the various creatures who come to slaughter you are both interesting and exciting. Other than equipping your only four operatives, there is little to do between missions yet the fusion of exploration and numerous combat events within the missions helps make this game stand on its own in the genre.

A World War 2 setting mixed with Lovecraftian horror influences is cool, but the game is average at best.

Overall, Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is an interesting, though fairly short game. The campaign took me 12 or so hours to complete, however, the game has a number of difficulty levels, with the highest being Mythic mode. You could spend a lot more time in the game working your way up to, and trying to beat that mode. For the Steam version (which this review is based on), there are 31 achievements as well. Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is also available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. You can get the game for $24.99 on Steam. Can you outwit the Nazis on the battlefield, and put a stop to their insidious plans?

For everyone else, Cthulhu Tactics offers nothing new or exceptional, It's like a video game version of junk food that has nothing but empty calories with no nutrition.

Even if I didn’t like it at all on a technical level I wouldn’t bar someone from it. I would caution those who play. I had a horrible experience, the game was unstable, so I warn you. Otherwise, enjoy yourself. It’s not awful to like the local brands.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is akin to playing a tabletop game with an unimaginative DM who was going through the motions and throwing combat rather than story at my team. This may be an unfair criticism – after all the game sells itself on being a tactics game – but I found myself bogged down in combat situations that felt repetitive with little narrative drive to progress. The RPG aspects of the game are held back by the lack of real character allowed for your team members who were more like chess pieces than scripted individuals. There is so much potential for the four unlikely allies to be developed through dialogue and roleplay, but this potential is not realised here. As it stands, Achtung! is a competent tactical combat game with an interesting setting that promises more but never realises it.

While Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics does basic gameplay well, it lacks challenge, depth, and uniqueness. The price is a little steep, so wait for it to go on sale or pass on this one. There are better strategy games to play.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a beer-and-pretzels tactical game. It’s not hard or demanding. It’s more like a puzzle game than something like Final Fantasy Tactics.

I think the best way to describe Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is to say that it's a game without soul. As it stands, I can't recommend it to neither Call of Cthulhu or turn-based strategy game fans.

Nazi terror with immortal evil sounds interesting, but it is just simple and monotone tactical game adequate only for beginners.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is competently built, attractive to look at in some areas, but rather bland in others. The gameplay was approachable and the difficulty curve was shallow, so players experienced in the genre may find it to be too easy to provide a meaningful challenge. Conversely, players new to the genre, or those that aren't especially good at it, will likely find it to be more engaging.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a barebones turn-based strategy title that is light on strategy or compelling reasons to slog through waves of uninspired Lovecraftian horrors.

Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is, honestly, a bit of a disappointment. It's a perfectly competent tactics game, and there is a solid 10 hours of narrative here for you to explore. However, it's mostly upsetting because of the flecks of brilliance that don't quite fit together, and the good ideas that aren't explored enough.

Cthulhu Tactics breaks the promise of a good game with repetitive and monotonous gameplay. Becoming a victim of its own lack of ambition and a poor use of its original content, HP Lovecraft fans will be disappointed at this entry, as the game buries itself in its mediocrity.

What Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics does well is offer a fairly approachable turn-based strategy for fans of the tabletop RPG, and also act as a nice introduction to that RPG for the uninitiated. It lacks an extra bit of polish and a few more bells and whistles, but it’s still an enjoyable enough tactical adventure.

A dungeon crawl with turn-based mechanics. Shows a lot of promise but is ultimately bogged down by repetitive combat and shallow character/skill system.
