Critic Reviews for The Council - The Complete Season
The Council has an alluring premise with interesting choices and consequences. However, it falls apart with absurd plot twists, tedious backtracking, and unexciting puzzles
The Council might have stumbled its way across the finishing line in Checkmate, but that's not enough to take the shine off of the title.
A nice surprise that is a great narrative adventure, but that can be improved on its technical side and with a better ending.

Though the modest technical execution tarnishes The Council to an extent, it remains an innovative and clever adventure which does that rarest of things - it treats the audience as intelligent, educated individuals. With its sophisticated geopolitical backdrop, occult themes and in-depth RPG style progression and decision systems, The Council sets a compelling blueprint for the episodic adventure to follow.
The Council is the perfect narrative adventure that this gen needed. Modern and classic at the same time.

The Council starts strong and manages to liven up the adventure genre with some smart decisions. As the series drags on though, the bugs, unappealing visuals, and lackluster plot development mar an otherwise engaging adventure.
An interesting story and smart game design help The Council work despite an occasionally iffy script, questionable production values, and some pacing issues.
The Council was a really promising adventure back in March. With intriguing plot and interesting RPG mechanics in conversations, first three episodes sank you deeper and deeper into the mystery of the island. However, the last two episodes forgotten about great atmosphere in favor of global human history and supernatural, completely killing the mood.
