The Council might have stumbled its way across the finishing line in Checkmate, but that's not enough to take the shine off of the title.

A nice surprise that is a great narrative adventure, but that can be improved on its technical side and with a better ending.

Though the modest technical execution tarnishes The Council to an extent, it remains an innovative and clever adventure which does that rarest of things - it treats the audience as intelligent, educated individuals. With its sophisticated geopolitical backdrop, occult themes and in-depth RPG style progression and decision systems, The Council sets a compelling blueprint for the episodic adventure to follow.

The Council starts strong and manages to liven up the adventure genre with some smart decisions. As the series drags on though, the bugs, unappealing visuals, and lackluster plot development mar an otherwise engaging adventure.

The Council was a really promising adventure back in March. With intriguing plot and interesting RPG mechanics in conversations, first three episodes sank you deeper and deeper into the mystery of the island. Despite its technical imperfections that do not cloud the gaming experience, this is a great title that lays the foundation for what could be the evolution of the narrative adventure as we knew it ... or maybe we are facing a role-playing game without combats? In either case, an experience worth playing.

If you like narrative-based adventure games, you need to have The Council: Complete Season in your collection. It’ll be hard to find another game in the same genre which tops the suspense, intrigue and excitement you’ll have within this 12-15 hour adventure. Sure, there aren’t as many major branching pathways as games such as Detroit: Become Human, but there is a lot of minor changes and certain things you can and can’t talk about or see if you’ve not invested your skill points accordingly.
