Silksong is a technical feat. So densely packed is its world that maintaining a laser focus on forward momentum is borderline impossible. At every opportunity, I found myself pausing the main campaign just to prolong my time in Pharloom. Little did I know that pacing myself wasn’t necessary. Mechanically, Silksong is just as expansive. Superior fluidity of movement and a less obtuse approach to building the perfect bug warrior made traversal and combat feel like a treat to be savored at every opportunity. Ultimately, games like these live and die based on how well their worlds are built, and Pharloom is one of the best from an architectural and visual perspective. It’s a shame that its fierce difficulty spike and pacing issues in the early game will absolutely turn less hardcore audiences away, because it’s clear that Silksong is seven years of love, care, and dedication splashed on a screen. Equal parts breathtaking and brutal, Hollow Knight: Silksong proves it was worth the wait but won’t go easy on anyone.

Hollow Knight: Silksong manages to live up to the daunting expectations surrounding the sequel. It carries the spirit of the original while introducing fresh mechanics that shape a remarkable adventure, one worthy of standing alongside its predecessor.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has a long road ahead of it, and I'm ready to follow it on its entire journey. Whether that includes a swath of free updates just like the original game, or potential DLC, I'll be there. In fact, I'm still there, slowly chipping away at a 100% completion rate. I won't be putting this one down for weeks.

Despite Hollow Knight Silksong’s relentless difficulty, it’s one of the most rewarding games this year. Pharloom is a lively world with surprises waiting in every corner, and the suspenseful combat and exploration makes Hornet’s arduous journey memorable. Silksong can feel a bit unfair at times, but its challenging nature forces players to adapt and learn to be patient

Team Cherry has done the impossible. In the face of colossal expectation, it has bottled lightning twice. Silksong is a masterpiece, not because it's bigger and better than what came before, but because it doesn't lose itself in trying to escape Hollow Knight's shadow. Its massive scope extends beyond Team Cherry's initial influences to become a definitive Metroidvania epic that challenges players to rise to the occasion.

Almost out of nowhere, this small group of Australians returns to deliver one of the most special video games I have played in a long time at a price that still sounds ridiculous to many, precisely when the conversation on this matter has taken on very intense overtones due to the sustained rise in the price of these products.

Ushering her to and fro across the game, I found myself seeking out side quests less for their prizes than for the possibility that at least one more bug might persist, and in the process seize some happiness.

The grueling years of work between the game's announcement and its current release are almost too much to justify a final result so astonishing it seems like a dream, but fortunately Silksong actually exists and is a monumental Metroidvania.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is as beautiful and endearing as it is brutal and uncompromising. It isn't a game that newcomers (or even longtime fans) can quickly come to grips with. Yet, Hornet's journey through Pharloom stands as one of the genre's greatest and a testament to pure passion.

Hollow Knight: Silksong takes the masterclass design of its predecessor and elevates it to set a new gold standard in Metroid-like design.

If the first half of Silksong was sold separately, I would call it the best Metroidvania since Metroid Dread. If the second half was sold separately, I would call it shock therapy. Put together, Silksong is essentially the exact sequel you’d expect, for better or worse - epic, brutal, fun, and infuriating. A massively impressive game to be sure but, held back by a few design choices, it falls a tad short of the potential you see so clearly in its early stages.

Hollow Knight: Silksong may well become a landmark, but its uncompromising design has led to polarized reactions among players. Rather than undermining its significance, this contrast only makes it feel more authentic, more complete, and ultimately more memorable.

Silksong is a work that should definitely be played by as many people as possible. It is an incredibly well-crafted, enjoyable, and satisfying product, sold at a retail price that is almost a steal considering the effort of the developers themselves. This, however, does not mean that it is the best metroidvania ever made, or that Team Cherry is the first development studio to achieve feats like this. What is certain is that we are facing one of the most beautiful and significant titles of 2025 for countless reasons-not just for gameplay alone.

Silksong can be considered an excellent and even exemplary Metroidvania. It is damn nice to play while exploring every picturesque corner of the teeming world. It is gorgeously structured, the modified role-playing system, although it has become a little less diverse, is still pleasant. And the rebalanced battles of the sequel, each duel in which resembles a rhythmic dance, cause an influx of adrenaline. However, the game is not without its flaws.

Silksong isn’t perfect, but you won’t find a better modern metroidvania out there. This was a labor of passion made by people who refused to settle, and you can feel it every step of the way. Everyone working on it was on their A-game, and they held nothing back.

A masterpiece - but one that can wear you down (sometimes for no reason at all).
