Effie aims to bring back the nostalgic feelings for the 3D action-adventure games from the golden era on PS2 and certainly succeeds to some degree, but it’s missing an overall level of polish and has a few too many bugs to fully enjoy.

Effie‘s mixture of fairytale storytelling and fun platforming work to make an endearing and playable little gem of a game. It’s by no means groundbreaking, but there’s a ton of love put into it and it displays excellent design, even though the combat could use a bit more refinement.

Effie isn't going to blow any minds, but its tried-and-true action and 3D platforming design makes for a delightful callback to yesteryear.

If they are veterans of the platforming genre, they will come across what we can consider a game to pass the time, ending it in a relatively five hours. If you know any young person who has not yet had a decent introduction to the world of platforming or even games, Effie is an adventure that takes no chances, but that will keep them entertained and happy throughout the trip.

Like a child, Effie is small and full of potential, but not yet grown to the game it could be.

Effie is an indie videogame developed by the spanish studio, Inverge Studios. Hinoring games of PSX and PS2, Effie brings us the story of Galand, a man who must fight with the witch Melira to save his world from destruction. All of this tell like a tale for a little child.

Effie is an action adventure and platforms game with a classic flavor. His argument does not shine for his originality, and his duration isn't very long, but the sensations of being playing something similar to the games in which it is inspired is palpable, and that is an achievement for a modest game like Effie. If you missed those classics games, Effie is your chance.

While Effie has its heart in the right place, it can’t seem to find the spark that made its iconic platformer inspirations such lovable classics. It’s simplistic and just a little too bland to work, and while there are definitely elements that show care, it can’t save what is, at its core, a forgettable experience.

Effie is a decent traditional third person platformer, but could have been so much more. Perhaps we've been spoiled in recent years, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Effie could have been elevated if it had tied the interesting backstory to the game mechanics or development in some way. As it stands, the narrative is totally removed from the game itself and this makes it feel old-fashioned in the wrong sort of way. Not a disaster but a missed opportunity.
