Effie is a decent traditional third person platformer, but could have been so much more. Perhaps we've been spoiled in recent years, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Effie could have been elevated if it had tied the interesting backstory to the game mechanics or development in some way. As it stands, the narrative is totally removed from the game itself and this makes it feel old-fashioned in the wrong sort of way. Not a disaster but a missed opportunity.

Effie on Nintendo Switch is an charming adventure that youngsters will enjoy the most. It's like an action platformer tale that it's a great way to introduce the most young in open world games with no complications or hard gameplay elements. It looks a little bit worst that on PS4, but playing on portable will fix that.

Effie is a 3D puzzle platformer with a strong nod to games of yesteryear. Simple combat as well as a lack of any real challenge and samey boss fights make it a title best suited to a younger audience.

Effie is good 3D Platformer that left me with a big smile on face. The Red Plains are a beautiful location to explore, especially given that you have an awesome hoverboard to do it with. The combat does hold it back a bit but the overall package is one that fans of 3D Platformers should definitely experience.

There’s great enjoyment to be had in playing through this nostalgic nod to the past, but the lacking presence of a challenge truly robs Effie of its oomph.

‎Luckily, ‎‎the platforms and puzzles work great.‎‎ The game throws us these challenges much more often than the combats and that will be appreciated by the player continuously. ‎‎"Surfing" around the map is also very nice,‎‎although if you miss that we have more content or more elements during those trips. Therefore, Effie seems to me a game with very good ideas but with some elements that do not work as they should, thus tarnishing the final result. A good game for those who love platform titles at the affordable price of 19.99 euros.‎

A few technical issues aside, if you are looking for an old-school platforming title with quite a bit of gameplay variation then look no further, Effie is a fun game to play.

A well-meaning and reverant 3D action platformer that's undone by middling execution and a remarkably dull introduction

Effie isn't the most complex action-adventure-platformer out there, and it isn't the most challenging. In this case, the lack of these features actually work well, as Effie delivers on a game where simplicity and nostalgia fuel a desire to continue playing.

A dysfunctional port of an otherwise solid and charming platformer.

Effie is a fine action and 3D platform game. The combat is bad, but the platform part is good. Do not expect complexity, though. Effie is a simple title, either because of its story or difficulty.

Effie isn't going to blow any minds, but its tried-and-true action and 3D platforming design makes for a delightful callback to yesteryear.

Effie aims to bring back the nostalgic feelings for the 3D action-adventure games from the golden era on PS2 and certainly succeeds to some degree, but it’s missing an overall level of polish and has a few too many bugs to fully enjoy.

If you're a fan of 3D platformers then you'll absolutely love Effie. It's one of the most satisfying games that I've played this year so far.

Effie is a fun 3D puzzle-platformer which pays homage to the classics of yesteryear perfectly. The vivid and luminous contrast between the choices of colours the developers have opted to use, really makes the games visuals pop out of your screen as every single scene is like a child’s colouring book where they’ve gone crazy with the bright primary colours! If you’re not hovering around the overworld at 100MPH, you’ll be fighting evil fiends, solving simplistic puzzles, or traversing perilous platforming. Although the story is a combination of tales we’ve heard before, it’s fun to play through and held the game together nicely.

Effie does well to pay homage to the platforming classics of the early console wars. The game has a lot to offer both visually and aurally, and the game’s enjoyment is found in adventuring and platforming your way through the open world, solving puzzles as you go. Effie deserves your time.

Overall, the game is geared towards a child-friendly audience with their colorful world, simple looking character designs and easy to follow storyline. However, in doing so the story lacks any actual depth and by using long and unskippable narratives, the gameplay aspect is defeated.

While Effie has its heart in the right place, it can’t seem to find the spark that made its iconic platformer inspirations such lovable classics. It’s simplistic and just a little too bland to work, and while there are definitely elements that show care, it can’t save what is, at its core, a forgettable experience.
