I’ll admit I was pretty skeptical with the Switch port of Darksiders Genesis, based on the disappointing port of Darksiders 2 to the system. So I was pleasantly surprised by the successful port over to Switch, even though it is not perfect. It’s definitely worth playing, especially if you’ve never tried it before.

Darksiders Genesis is a welcome change to a kind of stale franchise. Airship Syndicate work is definitely a good one, although the pacing of the story can feel weird sometimes and the camera is definitely a problem that can make the combat experience a little bit clumsy.

"Darksiders Genesis" proves to be an atmospheric offshoot of the popular game series and, just like its predecessors, manages to deliver exciting new approaches. Even though the player in "Darksiders Genesis" has to do without a comprehensive root system, the well thought-out talent tree allows the implementation of a wide variety of game styles. While the two multiplayer modes offer an additional game incentive, the different difficulty levels ensure that even passionate connoisseurs of the genre are brought to their knees every now and then. As usual, the individual levels are dark and varied and invite you to explore and discover thanks to numerous hidden items and tricky puzzle passages. No question, "Darksider's Genesis" does not come close to other genre greats in terms of scope - but especially lovers of the game series will not be disappointed.

Darksiders Genesis is a great addition to the series. It features a complex and diverse gameplay and while it may get frustrating at times, everything can be managed in single-player as well as the good co-op mode. The menus are a bit overloaded and I had something like a love-hate relationship to Darksiders Genesis. Overall, the good parts prevail.

Darksiders Genesis tries its hand at something new once more and finds more successes than fails. Strife is another great character for the series. Genesis has excellent art direction, varied enemies with fun combat in either solo or co-op play. Do not lose the balance by missing this title!

When all is said and done I found Darksiders Genesis a fun, if somewhat shallow game experience.

It’s only once all of the ill-advised puzzle and platforming mechanics have been introduced and enough time has passed for you to become comfortable with them that things begin to click, by which point you’ll also have extra attacks that help to paper over the inconsistent context-sensitivity and frequency with which you become stuck in the floor. Even then, Darksiders Genesis can go horribly awry—boss fights are weirdly unbalanced and gimmicky, and it’s often impossible to differentiate between platforms and decorations that cause you to void out and take damage—but there’s an underlying charm that almost makes it worth it.

Darksiders Genesis is a ton of fun with a friend, but still a wonderfully competent and fun experience for solo players. Gathering Cores and playing through the Arena offer up some longevity to the experience as well.

Darksiders: Genesis is every bit a Darksiders game as the ones that came before it. The addition of Strife is employed in such a way that it feels natural, rather than forced, and showcases the developer’s ability to build upon the series’ lore instead of ret-conning any of it.

Now that we've seen four games and met all the Horseman of the Apocalypse it has to be time to return to the original Darksiders ending and see what happens next. For now, Darksiders: Genesis is a lot of fun to smash demons around in and be introduced to Strife, officially.

Darksiders Genesis' action-packed combat and gorgeous visuals prove that the franchise still has plenty of juice left.

If you want to play a pretty good Diablo clone with a simplified control scheme and a prequel to the Darksiders series, you will enjoy Darksiders Genesis.

Airship Syndicate has carried a successful experiment that brought freshness to the Darksiders series. Isometric perspective works perfectly and thanks to that game is dynamic and eye-catching even though visual side of it isn’t the greatest. I must admit that Darksiders Genesis is one of my biggest positive surprises of this year. I recommend this part of the series to all Darksiders and hack 'n' slash genre fans.

Darksiders Genesis is a decent follow-up within the Darksiders franchise. It’s really great to see that the developers wanted to try something entirely different in the franchise and I can vouch for it; it’s a fun game to play especially in co-op. The game runs fluently and tries to maintain its link with previous titles by using some of the same mechanics which isn’t always a bad thing. The top-down experience was a blast and I definitely hope they’ll continue with these experimental versions of a great franchise.

Maybe Darksiders Genesis looks like a small game with a limited budget at the first look, but developers have used this budget as best as possible to create a title that unlike Darksiders III, feels like a Darksiders game and is faithful to the roots of this series.

everything Genesis does, it does quite well, and over the ~15-20 hour playtime (depending on how thorough you are) you’ll find it quite hard to identify moments of weakness. For existing and prospective fans alike, there’s much to love about Darksiders Genesis.

Despite some hokey voice acting and a few technical quibbles, Darksiders: Genesis manages to be every bit as significant to the franchise as the mainline games.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Darksider Genesis. The ending leaves much to be desired but the experience to get there was brutally fun and exciting. It takes around 12-15 hours to complete the main campaign and the arena is added content so overall, the game is a great package. I will be playing this next year on a console just to experience it all over again.

Darksiders Genesis is probably the biggest surprise hit of 2019. Despite the low starting price you get a game that shouldn't hide behind the original games or even the Diablo Series in terms of gameplay variety and content.
