A Doctor Who game set in a virtual world could have been something really special. Unfortunately, the slow movement and generic puzzles don't do much for Maze Theory's game.

There's moments of greatness, and genuine terror, in this loving homage to everyone's favourite double-hearted alien, but time and again it's dragged down by dull puzzles and drab storytelling.

Between sluggish movement and dull puzzles, I think it's enough to say that even Jodie Whittaker can't save this game.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Time on PS VR is filled with exciting bouts of fan service, but the VR game built around it feels considerably dated.

Any of the low-budget scenes or other technical shortcomings would be forgiven if — like the series — Doctor Who: The Edge of Time had a more engaging story and gave you more freedom to experience it. But it’s just too limiting and confining to ever capture the true Doctor Who magic.

If you're a real Doctor Who aficionado, you may find some enjoyment here, but otherwise, this is a waste of your precious time.

The game in a whole is great for any seasoned VR gamer and new VR gamers as well. I gave my wife a spin at the game and even though she doesn't game much, she had a blast with it. The creators really did a good job in the creation of this game and even though I am not up to date with everything involving Doctor Who, I think it is a good tribute to the growing audience the series has.

The Doctor Who fan in me loved his time with this title. From a non-Who fan, video game standpoint though, its negatives weigh heavy on the overall experience. Its short, too easy and sometimes cumbersome. If your a Who fan though you will love parts of it, as I did. Maybe wait for the title to go on sale.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has flashes of excellence and, if you’re a hardcore Doctor Who fan, you’ll get something out of it. But for a show that’s had this long a run, there’s really nothing remarkable about Doctor Who: The Edge of Time.

Doctor Who: The Edge of Time offers a gripping atmosphere and a great performance from Jodie Whittaker but besides that, it falls flat.

To be honest whilst I have pretty much watched most if not all of the Doctor Who series I am not a serious “Whovian” by any stretch of the imagination. I do however consider myself a fan and was really looking forward to playing Doctor Who: Edge of Time. Whilst there are many nods to the Doctor Who Universe and lots of fan-pleasing enemies and elements included, the game in my view failed to live up to it’s potential. What you have is a fairly generic bog standard puzzler with the now slightly cliched VR jump scares wrapped in a Doctor Who skin. It is by no means a bad game and I did enjoy my time with it however I was left slightly disappointed that yet again the potential of making an excellent Doctor Who game has been missed. It’s definitely worth a look if you are a fan and only the most fanatical and obsessed Whovian will find fault with what is in effect a deliberately fan-pleasing effort. All in all an opportunity wasted but hopefully, the devs will add some further adventures by way of DLC and therefore lengthen the game and add a bit of variety.

If you’re a fan of the series, it might be cool to give it a shot. Otherwise, if you’re simply looking for something new to play on your VR headset, it may be wise to avoid taking a trip to the good doctor.

While Edge of Time is not perfect, there isn’t anything in this game to be overly critical about. It does a fairly good job at giving you an authentic feeling Doctor Who experience. There are some silly plot holes but nothing to ruin the experience. The sonic screwdriver plays a big part the TV series, but is not used to the same extent in the game and is the biggest let down. It feels like Edge of Time was a prototype that was polished to completion. Far too many elements of this game were not fleshed out enough to reach their full potential. You will still have fun playing this game, it is just a shame to see a perfect storm not end up with a perfect game.

Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time is a solid virtual reality adventure offering that probably could have stood a bit more content, slightly faster movement options and maybe a few more chances taken along the way. All of those things being said, fans of the series should find a whole lot to like about the performances and presentation, and even those who have not followed the exploits of the Doctor will probably enjoy the adventure as well.

The Edge of Time has all the flavor of a Doctor Who production but more time spent cooking in the TARDIS would have gone a long way to make it more stable.
