Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is an excellent addition to Akira Toriyama's infamous Dragon Ball franchise, While the game retells the classic story that we all know and love, I do wish we got to see some more original things in there. The game captures the feel of Dragon Ball so well that I can highly recommend it to someone who has never seen or read DBZ.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is our favorite Dragon Ball game ever made alongside the awesome FighterZ, but there is a room for improvements.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will appeal to fans of the series without a doubt despite the familiarity of events. However, if you’re like us and aren’t overly familiar with the wider DBZ story then this serves as an entertaining ride to get up-to-speed. The RPG elements aren’t so interesting here although levelling-up moves and the community board is welcome. The fighting works very well and despite some repetition is the main event here. Can we recommend the game then? Well yes it serves as a decent offering for newcomers and younger gamers especially. However, it could improve in some areas such as a more adaptive combat system that allows for advanced players to shine.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot features flashy gorgeous combat and tells the most detailed version of the original storyline yet but a lifeless open world and useless RPG mechanics hold it back.

The world here is littered with side missions out in the wild, and most of them amount to uninspired fetch quests.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has its obvious flaws, however, I feel it's a welcome addition in the Dragon Ball games portfolio due to the fact that Bandai Namco is finally willing to take drastic risks with the franchise.

Outside of some technical hiccups and some boring fetch quests, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's colorful presentation and over-the-top battles should appeal to hardcore fans and baby-faced newcomers alike.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot focuses more on pleasing hardcore fans with a beautiful nostalgia reel than trying to be an RPG with substance

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot starts out with a lot of potential thanks to the addition of RPG touches to the expected fighting mechanics. The adventure portion feels like it was taken out of the oven a bit early, however, and we’re left with a Dragon Ball game that feels closer to what came before instead of being something completely new. If you love the previous Dragon Ball games before this, then Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is another worthy title to add to your collection. If you were expecting a different Dragon Ball game with highly polished adventure and RPG mechanics, however, just falls a bit short of reaching a new power level.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a buffet of gameplay, ideas and diversions. It is a game that makes no bones at who it has in its crosshairs, aimed squarely at the fans who have made Dragon Ball Z the global phenomenon that it is. Much like its source material, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot isn't without faults but its enduring spirit of facing overwhelming odds head-on and conquering them, is one lesson that it has succeeded in learning.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot isn't a bad game as much as it's a boring one. Turning the series into an open-world RPG seemed like an interesting challenge, but the game goes about that challenge in the dullest way possible. Putting effort into the series' highlights and dismissively padding out everything in between.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is by far the most ambitious anime game to date, showing great passion for Akira Toriyama's work. It has a vast and rich open-world, but sadly the poorly implemented side quests and other mistakes hold the experience back.

While we sat there for many an hour watching Goku yell and scream over an exaggerated amount of episodes to finally hit Super Saiyan on Frieza’s pale and purple behind, being able to physically land the final blow on evil emperor makes everything come full circle in what I consider to be the ultimate nostalgic set piece of any fan of this incredible franchise. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, is a must have and must play experience for fans of this generous and enthralling generational franchise.

Despite all its faults, I still really enjoy Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It simply does such a good job translating the core events of Dragon Ball Z into a game that it’s impossible not to recommend it to nostalgic fans.

The game has some shortcomings as an open world RPG. However when it comes to story, combat mechanics, and battle depictions, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an enjoyable ride from start to finish. And that remains true whether you’re an old-time fan or a complete newcomer to the series.

There must be a reason we keep buying the same story over and over again, right? While the game certainly has its technical flaws, there's no denying that fans of the franchise will find a lot of love and attention paid to the classic series. It may not add anything truly new to the DBZ saga, but Kakarot is an interesting diversion sure to spawn several sequels or spin-offs.

As it could be, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a unique product and exclusively tailored for its fans, and an interesting approach for those who want to know the series, avoiding episodes of incessant screams and exchanges of glances, after all the episode here only ends when we wish.
