Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is a potentially great RPG, trapped under a less-than-stellar console port.

On the one hand, the sheer quality of the game is evident in bounds, and as a homage to the mighty Baldur's Gate, it continues on the excellent trajectory set down by its predecessor. On the other hand, those loading times really are so bad that I neither enjoy my time with the game, nor want to play it.

Pillars of Eternity 2 was one the strongest CRPG titles of the last decade and luckily now it's available for 8th gen consoles as Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Ultimate Edition with all of the DLCs and improvements that has came to PC in the last two years. The level designs is spectacular, graphics are beautiful and both story and the gameplay are so deep. It's a must-have for anyone who love classic RPG games. It's really a Masterpiece.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is an exceptional RPG, which respects its classic origins, without being afraid to adapt modern mechanisms. With a fresh combat system and a story worthy of the most famous D&D games, it is highly addictive for the fans of the genre, while being a friendly companion to those who prepare to embark on their first quest. If the issue with the way too long and frequent loading times will be fixed, it will be a must-play game.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - Ultimate Edition is an incredibly rich and unique experience, made with a rarely seen care that allows each step, each decision made and each new twist in the story feel special, all supported by incredibly well crafted systems and a pristinely penned, to a level rarely seen in a game.

Deadfire released on Windows, Linux and macOS back in May 2018, but has since made its way to PS4 and Xbox One in January of 2020. I never played the original, but it’s likeness to Baldurs’ Gate intrigued me. Then upon reading, they introduced a new turn-based mode (like XCOM 2), I was ready to go.

Overall, POE II: Deadfire is a welcome addition to the tabletop RPGs for the console. I really love the great attention to detail. The ever branching story based on your decisions. And the crew of ragtag heroes that you can always replace and recruit from your old tavern. If you are into tabletop RPG, then this game is definitely worth getting into.

Pillars of Eternity II is a classic role-playing experience that leaves many memorable moments in the audience. The game has improved in every aspect compared to the previous version and improved the PoE formula both in terms of gameplay and in terms of characterization and dialogue. However, technical problems, and especially the shortcomings of the console port, have prevented the game from becoming a Perfect Game.

Pillars of Eternity II is a fantastic classic RPG and a gateway allowing the players to go back intime to much simpler times in which starting a new game meant going on a grand adventure. The beautiful, rich world of Eora, full of interesting characters and problems to solve, encapsulates that feeling, which none other game gave me for the past few years. Even though the console port has some technical issues, it is still a perfectly fine version of the game now to enjoy on your big TV.

While the controls aren’t perfect, they work well enough so I can’t complain about them. My one complaint is about load times. As you transition from scene to scene, it can take quite a while for the game to load. It’s a shame as it really slows down what’s already a fairly glacially paced title. Hopefully, a future update can address this.
