I kept playing and playing, and just couldn’t settle on how I felt about its stories and systems. But when I sat down to write and could barely remember who the characters in each alliance scenario were, that clenched it.

Already on track to be the Assassin’s Creed game I sink the most hours into yet, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is excellent in many ways, but flawed in just as many others.

Valhalla once again proves that ubisoft's chosen path for Assassin's Creed may not be appealing to the old fans of the series, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, as the series have developed into a solid RPG franchise. Still, Valhalla shows that the series is still far from completion, as there are several obvious shortcomings in combat gameplay and AI, along with some visual problems.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla delivers a great blend of storytelling and characterization for a true Viking journey and mixes it with enjoyable gameplay that has deep combat and RPG elements. The problem is that Valhalla technically has serious problems. Bugs and glitches in this game are really annoying and effect almost every other aspect of it.

A great Viking game, but as far from a true Assassin's Creed game as there could ever be.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has compelling story and themes, an often brave exploration component and inspired characters, even though those are all flooded by fillers seeking to artificially raise the longevity value.

All I know is that I had more fun than I was expecting, while still being cognizant of the game’s weird, cluttered assembly on full display. I’m padding through the dark, a tourist reading placards to seasoned scholars. In spite of this, I feel confident that fans and newcomers alike will have a pretty good time here.

Those are minor nitpicks of course, and shouldn't take away from all of the things Valhalla does well. Valhalla builds one of the most immersive and lived-in worlds of the series so far and expertly ties in all of its various mechanics and elements into one delightfully fulfilling experience. It delivers thrilling action and a gratifying narrative while also giving older concepts like the settlement the impact on gameplay they should have always had. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is yet another captivating chapter in the story of the Assassins, and you won't want to leave this warrior's world anytime soon. Skal indeed.

There’s a duality to Viking mythos that makes it the perfect fit for Assassin’s Creed; both sets of lore rely on conflict between two opposing forces—fire and ice, good and bad, order and chaos. So while these latest titles have felt like a different take on the franchise, at its core the game still rests on the same themes. With so much to discover, characters with so much heart, and plenty of drinking competitions to win, it’s hard not to get whisked away to the green grasses of England on this Viking adventure.

A few finnicky glitches here, a few difficulty problems there, and I'm still happy to call this game the best in the franchise since Black Flag in 2013 (ironically enough, the last title in the franchise to bridge the gap between generations). Assassin's Creed Valhalla proves that even the big big companies can find ways to bring tons of heart and charm to a cash cow franchise all while embracing its past and setting up for an exciting future.

Valhalla’s sober detailed research is undermined a little by some slightly tipsy execution. But this is a hearty, bawdy Viking feast of a game which spins a fine tale and offers plenty to get your teeth into.

While the two previous entries took some daring and engaging steps into the RPG genre, it’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that truly stands out as not just the most refined of the trio, but as a top-drawer RPG in its own right.

Onto Valhalla itself. Despite a downgraded experience in 1080p, the game was a delight to play.

This game expands and builds off of the best parts of the newer Assassin’s Creed games and offers a gorgeous open-world RPG with a thoughtful and complex main story quest. The side quests and extra content encourage exploration of the different regions so that players really get to experience the masterfully created world in all of its glory.

"Assassin's Creed Valhalla" proves to be an exciting open-world game that is completely convincing, at least at first glance. With the Nordic-inspired Viking adventure, friends of the series can look forward to impressive locations and put their assassin skills to the test once again. Both the missions and the battles are perfectly adapted to the scenery and let the player dive deep into the Nordic world. However, "Assassin's Creed Valhalla" lacks a really gripping story, which was an important supporting structure in many predecessors. The graphics could also use some fine-tuning to make the setting seem even more realistic. Nevertheless, genre fans will undoubtedly enjoy "Assassin's Creed Valhalla" and can look forward to an assassin adventure of a different kind.

Most recent installment of the Assassin's Creed series do not even tries to be like the original trilogy, but if you have liked last two games, you will also love this one.

Beyond some slight blemishes and the somewhat “slow burn” of both the combat and story, there’s much to love about this gripping Norse epic.

I enjoyed my time with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The combat might be clunky, the stealth might be an afterthought and the game might be rougher than a scouring pad, but the game’s story, characters, themes, and world more than made up for these shortcomings. Eivor will go down as one of the better protagonists in the series, and her saga is one that is certainly worth experiencing…ideally after the game has had a patch or two.

I was surprised by the depth of the story given to these other characters. In one of these adventures you are tasked with helping a usurper with taking over the throne from a power-hungry king that you find out belongs to an even larger group of bad guys in the Assassins Creed franchise,

A refreshing Assassin's Creed experience that is a must-play for newer and older fans. With an intriguing plotline, no grind and a world filled with interesting characters, Valhalla's glory is only held back by the engine and technical issues that also plagued its predecessors.
