Critic Reviews for Metro: Last Light Redux
Still as atmospheric and impressively grim as it was last year, but inessential if you have the original.
Metro: Last Light Redux is another strong entry in the Metro franchise that adds plenty of big-budget bombast to Artyom's adventures, but truly excels when it decides to stick to the more slow-moving, methodical stealth action of its predecessor. It may not quite hit the highs of Metro 2033 and is dragged down in places by some ill-advised boss battles and a few too many hands-off, on-rails moments, but overall, this is an excellent first-person survival title, presented in a fantastic port that's an absolute must-play for FPS and horror fans.
Although it makes some stumbles that its predecessor avoided, Metro: Last Light Redux is nonetheless an exciting romp through previously unexplored parts of the Metro universe.
Metro: Last Light is included in the 'Metro Redux' package for the Switch. While you can certainly buy the games separately from the eShop, I think it's still good to experience the series from its roots. You'll notice the improvements that have been made and I believe your time with the game will be that much more satisfying. Just like with Metro 2033, this game features all of the DLC including a 'Ranger Mode' that offers a HUD-less, UI-less experience with more powerful enemies and even fewer resources. If you can't get enough of the Metro experience, you'll want to give the Ranger Mode a try.
If you've never played Last Light, you should – it's an excellent game, and you should opt for this version. If you've already played it, however, you don't need to upgrade.
So I think, when all is said and done, I still recommend this game to anyone, whether you played Last Light originally or not. It certainly rides on the coattails of 2033 Redux's release, but it's still incredibly fun. If anything, it's a testament to how much fun Last Light was to begin with.
Like Metro 2033 Redux, this is a must buy for anyone who loves FPS or stealth/action games, and this Switch version is probably the best of the bunch thanks to the hybrid nature of the console.

Metro: Last Light Redux is a certifiable successor and a triumph of the creative human spirit that 4A Games displayed during their deplorable working conditions. A quality game that is on par with the likes of Half-Life 2. Bursting with atmosphere, tight controls and stealth mechanics, the only other comparable titles are Wolfenstein: The New Order and the previous game, Metro: 2033 Redux. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys single-player first person action games, Metro: Last Light Redux should not be missed.
