Chalgyr's Game Room's Reviews

Jul 9, 2018

Though there are plenty things to gripe about, from the lack of diplomatic options (like subterfuge) to a relatively dull selection of cultures, Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is still a wonderful experience for both new and veteran gamers. With the seemingly smaller scale, Thrones of Britannia feels more intimate than Total War titles of the past, which adds a certain personal touch to the overall feel of the game. While Total War: Shogun 2 is still the crème-de-la-crème of the Total War franchise, Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is a wonderful addition to the longstanding and beloved franchise.

8.5 / 10.0 - Omensight
Jul 5, 2018

Though the combat and in-game puzzles are none too deep, they are richly populated and fantastically presented in Omensight, and wrapped up in the gorgeous darkly cartoony aesthetic creates a must-have cult hit for any budding PlayStation fan. While it may be completable in a single playthrough, the time spent as the Harbinger will be an excellent one that will ultimately leave you satisfied and at about $20 USD, it is an absolute must-buy.

10 / 10.0 - Vampyr
Jul 4, 2018

Finally, Vampyr is a well thought out story with very real themes, allows play style options, and grips players effortlessly. I appreciate the amazing music, gritty atmosphere, and realism of the game given the time period. Out of ten I'm going to give this game a full score because the lore was done correctly, research was done on legitimate human ailments, and the atmosphere is perfectly portrayed. I love the attention to detail with respect to the posters littered throughout the game. Vampyr's graphics are beautiful, the music and sound are done properly, the story enthralling, and I will be playing this game until its end.

8 / 10.0 - The Lost Child
Jul 3, 2018

Overall, The Lost Child is a good way to spend your time dungeon crawling as the story provides something interesting instead of a little bit of gloss as your reason for doing everything. With lots of interesting mechanics in regards to your party, there’s more than one way to approach your combat tactics as you work your way through Japan solving mysteries to write up your articles and working on the biggest one of your life. What exactly does it mean to be “God’s Chosen”? You want to know? Your dungeon crawling awaits you!

With interesting mechanics such as "beating" the game for dying at certain times or doing silly things like removing your operating system, or the extremely odd way that some of the enemy machines pantomime the more mundane (or not so mundane) actions of humanity, Nier: Automata is oft-times confusing but the deftness with which the various elements found throughout, miraculously pulls the game together and is anchored by the best music in the business. What results is easily the most under-appreciated game of these last two years.

8.8 / 10.0 - State of Decay 2
Jun 28, 2018

State of Decay 2 excels as survival sim with zombies strewn about a decaying world and really does provide near endless hours of grinding zombies down, hunting and scavenging for more resource, destroying Plaguehearts in hopes of finding a cure, and managing communities. In more ways than one, State of Decay 2 is the pinnacle of zombie survival, successfully melding numerous genres into a dismal world nigh devoid of hope. Amidst the overwhelming tide of darkness lies a small ray of hope within your community.

8.5 / 10.0 - Rainbow Skies
Jun 27, 2018

Rainbow Skies is a perfect example of a sequel that takes everything from its predecessor and does it better. From the dialog to the various system enhancements and the sheer ease of playing on the platform you want when you want. This is a sequel worth looking into and the best part is that you don’t have to play Rainbow Moon to enjoy it as the adventure itself only references its predecessor in passing meta dialog.

...this is a beautiful game that keeps me entertained for hours at a time. It doesn't matter how much I play, I will always have a reason to go back. If you are looking for an uncomplicated, sweet, relaxing and colorful adventure, then this is the title for you! They also take criticism very seriously - just check out the troll island. :)

9.5 / 10.0 - FOX n FORESTS
Jun 22, 2018

All in all, The Fox N Forest game was an excellent retro platformer. Especially if you are the type of person who like to go out of their way to be a collector. This game does give you the choice to play from easy, normal or hard, which could definitely give those who like a challenge a run for their money. I'm giving this game 9.5, a must play if your ever looking for fun time.

8.3 / 10.0 - Moss
Jun 21, 2018

On the one hand, one could argue that Moss is a success in simply leaving me wanting for more. There is some truth to that, as this is one of the most engrossing stories I have played in VR or any other platform. The presentation is top-notch, the storytelling has charm in spades and the puzzles make excellent use of the VR technology. A little more maturation in the combat and gameplay coupled with a longer tale would have made Moss an absolute treasure, but what we have here is still one of the most endearing experiences in virtual reality to date.

8.8 / 10.0 - Vampyr
Jun 20, 2018

Vampyr is to date, 2018's most interesting and ultimately satisfying release. Stunning world-building, detailed and interesting non-player characters, enjoyable RPG level-building mechanics, and an intriguing story mixed with the district management features have yielded an excellent action RPG title that is a bit deeper than your atypical affair. Moody and brilliant, Vampyr is a must-have for any fan of the non-sparkling vampire variety.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is a fantastic game for a host of reasons. The characters are charming, the gameplay is entertaining and there is a solid gameplay loop that kept me exploring just a little further each time. Fans of the Ys series owe it to themselves to explore what this latest chapter in Adol's adventures has to offer, but the gentle learning curve and various options provided make this an approachable title for those new to the series or the action RPG genre as well.

I really wanted to enjoy my time with Warhammer 40K Space Hulk: Deathwing - Enhanced Edition but some of the design choices just made it seem long and drawn out. Adding in killer load times, and sometimes it wasn’t worth reloading from a previous save but instead starting the mission over because you didn’t get out of the way of a missile turret fast enough.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle checks off all of the boxes I look for in an Arc System Works fighting game. The action is fast and fun, the presentation is top-notch and the learning curve is handled perfectly as you progress from story to versus to competitive online where this title will no doubt find it has its longest shelf life. There are relatively few surprises to be had here, but the mix of franchises is still a lot of fun to explore.

8.5 / 10.0 - Azure Reflections
Jun 13, 2018

Overall, Touhou Azure Reflections is a really great spin-off with its own fresh gimmicks and playstyles, with enough of a challenge for veteran players, while easy enough for new players to get into. With a solid soundtrack and interesting characters, a great beginner tutorial and some nice variation with accessories, Azure Reflections is a fine game if you’re looking for more Touhou in your gaming diet, or if you’ve been interested in getting into the bullet hell type games but have never known where to start.

With dozens of titles to choose from, many of which rank among the best in video game history, the Sega Genesis Classics delivers a lot of bang for your buck. This collection rightly hangs its hat on bucket loads of nostalgia, but some nice new features make this more than just the repackaging of older games I have seen in other compilations over the years. I could nitpick about a handful of titles that should have been here and some that might as well have been left off, but this is a collection of games that is definitely worth playing.

Both Towards the Pantheon: Escaping Eternity and Towards the Pantheon are a must for any RPG fan or lover. The characters, the music, the artstyle, it has it all and it does it very well. The only reason it’s not getting perfect marks is that it froze once or twice in bad spots like me turning the final boss into a cow and because of how many times I died because of being stunned. But that’s it. Watch out for those and everything else is golden!

8 / 10.0 - MachiaVillain
Jun 7, 2018

At the end, if you follow the tropes, you will earn yourself upgrades to your crypt, unlocking extra monsters, extra victims, and more. If you don't, though, you will end up in debt and starving, or possibly even have your villain license revoked! I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone that enjoyed prison tycoon style games to give this a look-see. It's worth the price tag, plus it has Twitch integration!

8 / 10.0 - Antigraviator
Jun 5, 2018

Antigraviator is a long awaited PC game for me. It fulfills a need of having a racing game that doesn't anger me. I say anger because no other racing game compares to Gran Turismo – a game I have high regard for. This game fills a different need when it comes to racing, and that is to have something that fulfills the need for pure speed. In short, it is a sleek and fun racing game that can be played solo or can be played to cause mayhem with your friends, making Antigraviator a racing game not to miss out on. - Susan N.

7 / 10.0 - Subaeria
Jun 1, 2018

Subaeria has to be one of my favorite Roguelikes of the year. I've played a few so far but the depth of the back story, the construction of the environments and the fact that Styx is only human all come together very well. There are no super human abilities here, just random technological hacks that aid our would be vengeance protagonist on the way to her final goal regardless of what stands before her.
