Only drop coin on this if you're a huge fan of the genre
Agents will lose most with its humour, juvenile, distracting and frustrating.
Sadly, much of Bulletstorm gets in its own way.
1-2-Switch is more of a tech demo.
I had some fun with Pixel Gear but it is hard to recommend. There is about two hours worth of content here and before I’d even finished the first level on normal difficulty my mind was wandering. Higher difficulties are more engaging but this is a shallow, simple shooting gallery you would expect from a motion control minigame collection, adding a VR layer to expand it to 180 degree action isn’t enough and even if you are engaged there is no way to compete against yourself, let alone the world. Thoroughly mediocre.
Beyond the minigames there isn’t a lot here. You have a playroom to store unlocked toys and throw them around a bit should you wish. It offers about three minutes of entertainment. The overworld carnival is populated by freakish bearded women and young children with supernatural reflexes, dodging every projectile you launch their way. The carnival barker attempts to be amusing, mostly without success, and will soon be repeating himself to the point you curse that he too has supernatural reflexes.
All up, the disc is forgettable and not worth your time, unless you’re keen to have a showreel of VR’s greatest hits for visitors. Move on to Until Dawn: Rush of Blood or Batman: Arkham VR instead.
In all seriousness, you’re better off skipping the Triple Pack and getting Dead Rising 3 instead — and for the same price. Or, just saving your cash for Dead Rising 4 and (hopefully, a less assholish) West.
Fallout 4 was an epic game, very much deserving of the 10/10 rating we bequeathed upon it, but its DLC offerings are another story altogether. If you have the game’s “Season Pass”, you might as well grab a couple extra new Achievements or Trophies. If you’ve been buying DLC piecemeal, leave it alone – unless, of course, you’re very much into crafting.
I’ll be honest in saying that my initial impressions of Farming Simulator 17 when I first started were somewhat poor. It felt a little daunting, a little slow and a little boring. After ploughing through the tutorials though and spending a little more time, you do start to appreciate just how detailed a game like this is. Being able to grow crops one moment, cut down trees another and then look after livestock the next, it’s a fairly complex game for what would seem like a trivial concept. The only problem though is that it’s hard to really keep your attention when everything is so mundane. Sure, there’s some enjoyment in switching between tractors, changing your machinery for the task and completing your goals, but when it all moves at a snail’s pace it grows tiresome very quickly. For those wanting an authentic farming experience then yes, Farming Simulator 17 is your game, but for regular gamers wanting to try something new, I’d recommend going down to Bunnings, buying some seeds and doing it yourself.
With 30 levels, too few of them being actual trials and too many being stupid platforming, Trials of the Blood Dragon seems nothing more than an attempt at showing off what a few developers could do after getting drunk and watching 80 action movies and Saturday morning cartoons. The disappointing thing is this could have been so much better by simplifying the concept and making it a DLC map pack for Trials Fusion. Die-hard Trials fans will play this once, but probably never again; that said, they might enjoy it. Die-hard Blood Dragon fans will be unimpressed.
It’s not its appearance that lets Driveclub down, it’s the racing and all bits in between. The handling of the cars feels solid but the racing aspect is overshadowed by the frustrating A.I. opponents. Its main draw is supposed to be playing the game while online – but this is far too annoying as you get flooded with notifications. Ultimately there are games out there that have done a much better job with asynchronous multiplayer like Need For Speed’s Autolog system. When you sit down and play Driveclub you can see that it had potential, but it still feels like its missing too many components. In the end Driveclub is an incredible looking driving game, but it’s not a good racing game.
Ultimately, I completed Battletoads in 3 hours and 45 minutes and have no intention of ever going back.
BBL fans looking for a quick fix will stick with the free mobile game. While there should have been a place for Big Bash Boom between the two, it’s priced itself out of contention
Star Allies isn't bad, it's just dull. Perhaps that's worse.
World Series really embraces an Overwatch format, presenting each of the game's 12 vehicles as a different personality and build.
Overall Headmaster is a solid experience for testing out the PS VR’s functionality but at its core, the mechanic isn’t sustainable. The game even warns you not to play for too long to avoid any strain, and the frustration of not-quite-perfect tracking can leave mission failures feeling imposed rather than earned. The story threading through the game is entertaining and did make me chuckle a few times, but I’m not sure it’s enough to keep me invested. It’s a unique use of the hardware to be sure, but it might not quite be there yet.
This is yet another rugby league game that requires patience and understanding to enjoy, compromises we have been expected to make for 20 years now and with so many other legitimately great games out there, both sports and otherwise, they are compromises few should or will make.
My strategy — if you want to call it that — was effective on Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties and made short work of opponents. I didn’t play in co-op, though local 4-player play is an option; there, I’d imagine you’d simply need to coordinate powers between all playing. You’ll be unstoppable, and that’s a problem because there’s not a lot of game to play, even with the addition of new levels and mini-bosses.
While Super Princess Peach on the DS was criticised for reducing a female lead to being very literally controlled by her emotions, Princess Peach Showtime only works to allow her to embody so many different roles because there isn’t really a defined character underneath it all. For all its faults, 2023’s Super Mario Brothers Movie at least gave us a Peach who was driven, confident and capable – if Nintendo needs tips on how to build a Princess who could helm a game on her own, they should just ask Anya Taylor-Joy for tips. For now, I don’t see Showtime making it to Broadway – but I might still check out the matinee if there’s nothing else going on.
