DEEEER Simulator: Your Avarage Everyday Deer Game is a fun game that works great if you want to de-stress a bit and don't want to play more of the same. Unfortunately, the game is very short and has some stability issues when played in handheld mode. Furthermore, there's not much reason to play the game other than just destroying things, and that gets tiring after a while. If you want a simple and fun game to distract yourself between major releases, DEEEER Simulator: Your Avarage Everyday Deer Game is a good choice. However, for those expecting something more, it's better to invest your money elsewhere.

In short, Unpacking has an attention to detail, an art direction and an affection for the work that is above average, and it is certainly the game I most recommend among those I analyzed this year, not for any specific audience, but rather for everyone, it has a universality when it embraces a felling common to all: that of having a home.

At the end of the day, the game is still full of personality, and Yoko Taro's signature touches can be seen, especially in the narrative, even with a more humorous script. The experience is unique and engaging enough to recommend to RPG enthusiasts, especially those who enjoy tabletop RPGs. However, it's not guaranteed that this game will please fans of Taro's work, not only because the gameplay is quite different from that found in Drakengard/NieR, but also because the high potential of the author's ideas in that work was unfortunately underexplored.

Super Mombo Quest relies on simplicity and the synthesis of elements from some successful platformers to create something unique. The main character, despite having no dialogue, is charismatic and easily creates a connection with the player. The title, however, is not without its problems. The Metroidvania elements could have been better explored, Mombo's abilities are also underutilized, and the difficulty could be a bit higher, without—of course—making the game prohibitive for certain audiences. Still, Super Mombo Quest enchants, entertains, and demonstrates that Brazil has great potential in the gaming industry.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is an average fighting game, but it can serve as a fun and entertaining alternative in local multiplayer. The characters and stages are generic and soulless, mainly due to the lack of voice acting, original music from the series, and extra content beyond the competitive aspect. Which is a shame, as this is the Super Smash Bros. clone with the greatest potential so far.

Pups & Purrs Animal Hospital is a good enough veterinary simulator with a very cute presentation, even though it makes the player wait way more than they should between treatment steps. It has some fun minigames where we take care of cute pets, and an addictive gameplay loop, especially when you don't want to think too much when playing. However, it fails at several moments when it tries to be something different than this, it has some boring relationship system, and a fine, but meaningless customization. If you're a big fan of veterinarians and animals, it's worth checking out the game and its cute animals, but if what interested you was the relationship and customization aspects, it might be better to look for other options.

Blue Reflection: Second Light brings a well-constructed plot with a very strong dramatic load and great character development, combined with slice of life elements represented by mechanics such as Dating that make the progress between one chapter and another less monotonous. Together with the great conversion for lower-end hardware and excellent art direction and soundtrack, the result is one of the most beautiful and relaxing games I could get my hands on in 2021.

Metroid Dread honors the legacy of the franchise, but it doesn't deliver everything the series is capable of offering. Despite being an excellent Nintendo Switch game, with an incredible combat system and memorable battles against relentless bosses, the stealth sessions with the EMMI become repetitive over time and the uninspired setting of the planet ZDR make Samus Aran's new adventure leave a taste of wasted potential at times.

Corpse Party continues to be a good example of the horror genre. With its high graphic and sound quality, compelling story and charismatic characters, the 2D title should not be underestimated. For those who haven't played it yet, it's an excellent pick for the Halloween, but the new additions to the Switch version are small to justify buying it again for those who have already experienced one of its previous releases.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is a game with a lot of problems and it certainly wasn't the best choice for a re-release. Despite having some improvements over the original release, the remaster still has the same design issues as the Wii U version, mainly the fanservice that ruins the atmosphere, and those who decide to try the game to get to know the series may end up leaving with the wrong impression of the franchise.

Unsighted is certainly one of the best games of this year, both for its visual presentation and its refined mechanics. However, a hint of wasted potential can be felt when faced with the amount of elements available in its gameplay that were underutilized, in addition to a narrative that does not develop as well as it could. Still, the title is a great adventure that deserves to receive a sequel.

In conclusion, Knockout Home Fitness is a perfect title for those who want to work out without leaving home, as well as a great alternative for those who don't want to shell out $70 for Ring Fit Adventure. With plenty of different exercises and encouraging the player to come back every day, the game is that push you need to start changing your habits.

WarioWare: Get it Together! is a great return to the franchise and also a great addition to the Nintendo Switch's First Parties catalog, accompanied by a good OST, and creative or simply bizarre visuals at the same time. The game brings a great and addictive experience, especially if played with a friend, although alone it can end up being repetitive easily if you don't like the style of the microgames in the main mode.

Spelunky 2 expands on everything the first one did, it has more content, visible gameplay improvements, more mechanics, and most importantly, still a lot of frustrating moments, with even more sudden and instant deaths that can bother the player more than before, and even make the experience a little more repetitive with obstacles that seem to repeat themselves quite a lot in some levels. But it is still an excellent rogue-like, and a great sequel to everything the original represented.

No More Heroes III marks the end of the No More Heroes franchise. It is perhaps the only one in the franchise that manages to serve as a direct sequel to everything the first one did in terms of themes and language. Embracing incoherence, the trash and kitsch, Suda made a punk statement about everything he sees wrong with the art/spectator relationship, transforming this reality into a caricature. His most audacious and risky game since Flower Sun and Rain, it is easily misunderstood and criticized precisely for the flaws that Suda wants to expose to ridicule here. It is a story made to be hated, for being an ironic hyperbole of everything that is most horrible in the contemporary cultural market. The unfortunate thing is that No More Heroes 1 communicated this much better, making the existence of the third game kinda pointless.

Spelunky is exactly what a roguelike should be: challenging, addictive, and full of secrets to discover. Whether you play alone or in a group, it will keep you engaged for hours without even noticing the time passing by. Almost all the time, the player will be discovering new things while exploring and dying a lot in the mines. The only downside being that there are various moments of frustration where we suffer from deaths that really didn't seem fair.

Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered and Soul Nomad & the World Eaters make for a great pair of classic games for the first volume of a collection. They are games that share the same gameplay style but bring their own particularities in terms of mechanics and narrative. Despite being titles that haven't aged very well, and that haven't even received a good re-release treatment, they are still great games that deserve to reach more players.

The Fixers, as our group of protagonists calls themselves, make up one of the most interesting casts of relationship-based games I've ever played. The lighthearted way in which the deep and shocking themes are handled captivated me from start to finish. The pacing is impeccable, and the overall experience is incredibly immersive.

Space Invaders Invicible Collection is the perfect Space Invaders experience. If you're a fan of the franchise or have always wanted to try it, this is your chance. There's no better way to play one of the most important video games in history than through this collection.

Cris Tales is a pleasant surprise in many ways, the game surprises with its scale, execution and beautiful visuals. It doesn't reach the level of classics of the genre, but it has inspiration and a lot of effort behind it. After finishing the game, the feeling that remains is that I experienced a different but engaging journey, filled with characters and colorful worlds that leave a positive mark. I recommend it mainly for fans of turn-based RPGs, but I ask that you stay tuned for possible updates for the Nintendo Switch version, which currently suffers from loads that interrupt and harms the rhythm of the game.
