There is something all encompassing about the darkness in Amnesia: Rebirth. The distinction is how it swells around the player and creeps up the corners of your screen, and how you’re left scrambling over rocks and oddly shaped architecture when resources run thin. I’ve never felt something more complete and simultaneously frustrating in all of my years playing horror games.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a product of a studio maturing into their skills. They’ve mastered the sense of narrative storytelling by crafting beautiful atmospheric environments instead of relying on straight horror. While the pacing can come to a crawl at certain moments, there’s no denying this is a terrifying game that fits well within the developer’s catalog.

Amnesia: Rebirth marks a triumphant return to form for the series, with the horrifying story and eerie atmosphere sure to send plenty of chills down gamers’ spines. Whilst there’s no denying that it doesn’t feel as innovative as it did back in 2010, there’s still scares aplenty as you embark on Tasi’s unnerving journey to not only survive but maintain her sanity at the same time. If you’re eager for an eerie treat this Halloween, you needn’t look any further than Amnesia: Rebirth.

Amnesia: Rebirth is pervasively terrifying in a way very few video games manage to be.

With a muddled story that leaves much unanswered, and a series of half-baked mechanics that feel a decade out of date, it’s hard to recommend Amnesia Rebirth as a way to satisfy your scares this Halloween. You’ll more than likely want to forget all about it.

10 years after Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Frictional Games decided to dive into the madness again. However, Amnesia: Rebirth is a completely different title: better written, more ambitious and more diverse in its themes. This game is a result of all the knowledge and craftsmanship gained by the Swedish studio after 14 years.

Amnesia Rebirth is the best game of Frictional Games and one of the best horror games of 2020. Hopefully in the future they will improve their narrative and their puzzles.

Despite a few small clichés and a merely functional technical department, Amnesia: Rebirth manages to be consistent to the end, offering a profound and terrifying experience. If the woodworm insinuated by a videogame manages to escape from its content by undermining the user-container, then it will have performed the most difficult task: to push to reflection through a silent path of transference and identification, to really live outside the fictitious nightmare that created it.

With wonderful voice acting and atmospheric presentation that keeps you immersed and on the edge of your seat, Amnesia: Rebirth manages to provide an exciting experience. Of course, there are a few downsides. It's not as scary as previous offerings, the AI can be a little clumsy, and the weak conclusion to the story will leave you wanting more.

Amnesia : Rebirth is, despites it's name, a new episode into the saga. We follow Tasie, lost in the desert after a crash plane, looking for the other survivors and it's a true pleasure to live its story, very well written, even if some gameplay mechanics feel quite outdated.

Overall, I definitely recommend you pick up Amnesia: Rebirth if you're any kind of a fan of survival horror games. It's a worthy successor to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and while the gameplay doesn't change much, the new story and monsters definitely make up for it.

Rebirth subverts player expectations by offering intriguing new features and wonderful world design. Even if the puzzles are sometimes obtuse, Rebirth is well worth your while.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a worthy successor to the series created by Frictional Games a decade ago. It tackles the painful and familiar feeling of loss, marrying in a wonderful way sadness with cosmic terror. If you liked The Dark Descent or in general if you are one of those who want to experience a creepy journey into the abyss of paranoia that will attempt to devour your mind, then look no further.

Amnesia: Rebirth keeps the amnesias essence. You can see the Frictional Games' work evolution here. Recommended for all those who like to explore, experience psychological fear and, to a lesser extent, solve puzzles. Not recommended for those who do not like to live stooped to advance and have a hard time practicing stealth.

In the earlier, sandy hours, that restlessness is a boon-the work of a developer surveying the drier sweeps of a genre and divining a bright pool of ideas.

Frictional Games' long-standing goal to weaponize players' own fears against them bears fruit in Amnesia: Rebirth, in their most ambitious and tautly designed work to date.

A disappointing sequel to The Dark Descent, but while the horror elements can seem mundane at times the storytelling and characterisation remain impressive.

At a glance, Amnesia: Rebirth could be taken for just about any other horror game of its ilk. That’s understandable given the last decade of influence Frictional has had on the genre. What Frictional does so well, what it’s always done well, is adapt. Bubbling under the surface of Rebirth are so many slight tweaks, changes, and improvements to a tired, but winning, formula that raises it above the copycats and potential usurpers. This is a game grown from regret and from mistakes as much as it is from success, and while Rebirth works as a title on so many levels, its best use is in how Frictional has reincarnated a seminal horror game as something relatively familiar on the surface, but quite different under the skin of it.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a fitting third entry to the Amnesia series that takes its unique lore and runs with it in a respectable way. If you’re looking for a creepy game to play in October that won’t overload you with jump scares, Amnesia: Rebirth is a worthwhile pick.
