DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One Reviews
Cubed3 adored DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch when it first released and having The Ancient Gods DLC Part 1 come to the console is another cherry on the cake for the handheld hybrid system. The difficulty will be the biggest barrier to overcome for many; this is a rock solid DLC pack that will test even the most veteran players out there. The three stages on offer might sound like the DLC is lacking, but there is enough content there to warrant the price tag for an extra chance to smash up some demons. Bethesda have already stated that DLC 2 will be coming later in the year, so it is not that much longer to wait!
DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part One is extremely challenging. The endless waves of enemies coupled with specific ways to kill the new types of monsters make this DLC one of the most difficult ever seen. For those looking for a challenge, we recommended it and, of course, it is "more DOOM". However, if you think that the base game is challenging, stay away from the DLC.

It is a 10-hour experience that's very difficult in the first part, but later parts are cranks up the fun factor. Beware though, first time you play consider reducing the difficulty one level lower from your usual selection.

The Ancient Gods Part 1 delivers more of what we liked about Doom Eternal, with amazing new environments and shocking story cliffhanger that made us excited about Part 2.

Ancient Gods is not necessarily a bad expansion pack, but the original DOOM Eternal was so good and even small changes in the wrong direction can hurt the experience. In Ancient Gods case, the uneven difficulty and confusing story seem to be those wrong changes that topple DOOM Eternal from the top a little bit.

Spewing larger-than-life encounter after larger-than-life encounter The Ancient Gods - Part One can get a bit on the repetitive side, but it's easy to forgive it for this minor misstep, since more DOOM Eternal is never a bad thing. Don't let the low level count fool you. The three available maps are fairly large, and the high challenge will manage to keep you on your toes, especially due to how some new demons affect the battlefield. As a whole, and while a bit more variety would be more than welcome, the first DLC is very enjoyable, looks great, carries some new, and pretty neat tunes, and finally leads the narrative down a pretty intriguing path. Can't wait for Part Two!
It's hard to say if the DLC wouldn't have been as satisfying if it'd come out later than it did, but releasing a few months after the base game isn't a bad timeframe at all. There's no telling when Part Two will release, but The Ancient Gods – Part One has shown that the conclusion of this chapter is one worth looking forward to.
Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods part 1 continues where Eternal left off, which is exactly what id Software was supposed to do to make it a success. All the good elements from Eternal with a few nice additions make The Ancient Gods Part 1 a must-have for fans of Doom!

DOOM Eternal – The Ancient Gods – Part One is a fantastic addition to an already stellar experience, providing more challenge, interesting new levels, and an engaging narrative that will leave you clamoring for more. Some may be turned off by the two-part structure, but if you want more DOOM Eternal now, The Ancient Gods – Part One is bound to satisfy.
The Ancient Gods is an unapologetic and brutal conclusion to an epic game. Rip and tear into this expansion and see end for yourselves.
Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods delivers on everything a fan of this series could hope for and more.
The Ancient Gods Part One doesn’t introduce a new way to play the game but it focuses on new extravagant contents, with an extremely powerful level design that results in great and new situations never seen before in this series.

With double Marauders, Tyrants, and new enemies such as the Spirit, we see a lot of innovation coming, but staying true to what DOOM has offered as a series for over 25 years. If this is what the future continues to look like, DOOM will remain eternal.
An expansion to the height that brings back the best aspects of the original game, with more of the same but equally powerful and addictive. The included content gives for a few more hours that will leave us satisfied, although it has a series of performance problems that should be solved as soon as possible.

«Ancient Gods Part One» doesn’t do anything too drastically new. Instead it builds on the solid foundation “Doom Eternal” laid out and delivers mostly one thing: More content. It won’t do anything to persuade those that didn’t like the base game, but it offers a gripping new story and a 5-hour campaign that features more challenging gameplay and yet another opportunity to rip and tear through demon flesh.

The Ancient Gods is a real extension of the base game. Some of the uncertainties, especially related to the narrative arc, have been swept away. The narrative is more linear and solid, although quite short at this time.

The Ancient Gods Part 1 is more of what made the main game so much fun and a stand out game of 2020 but it does feel held back by its own stubbornness to stick to the frustrating problems which should and could be ironed out. The ending sets up something very special to come in 2021 and it did remind me just how brilliant DOOM Eternal is if you had perhaps put it down since release but as 2020 comes to a close and silly season is about to launch some heavy hitting games and new gen consoles, this DLC is a perfect “remember why you loved me” reminder for fans of DOOM.
A direct continuation of DOOM Eternal’s main campaign, The Ancient Gods Part 1 is a non-stop adrenaline-fueled slaughter fest. It takes all the best parts of the main campaign and turns them up to 11.
