Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is not a true remaster, but it does add the graphical niceties associated with games that do get the updated treatment. In this sense, the graphics are enhanced enough to make it look and feel new, while the addition of a bunch of new features and game modes help increase replay-ability. Despite the subtle improvements, and considering how the game has not even been out for a full year, the asking price is a bit of a cheek. While it is 20 dollar’s less than the original $60 USD price tag, it still stings too much for anyone who may have bought the collector’s editions in 2019, thinking they would get free upgrades to the next-gen version (and rightfully so). Qualms about the price notwithstanding, the game is wonderfully executed in both design and narrative. It is a decent sequel to the events of Devil May Cry 4, and a great point of entry for any new fan. The Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition might be the best bang for buck entry as well, though no one will argue that the first three titles are still the strongest.

DMC5SE occupies its own tried and tested safe space within the world of video games. It hasn't really progressed much since 4 and doesn't seem to have broken through any genre-defining boundaries to evolve itself beyond what it already was. As a series, DMC5SE is truly the pinnacle in terms of polish and content but by way of freshening things up: it plays it far too safe and sadly won't really blow your mind.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition brings Vergil to the party. The new character gets his own share in the game and you get to complete the whole story as the katana-wielding demon slayer. It brings a whole new dimension to this already cool game. Next to that, the game has various next-gen upgrades like ray tracing and a higher framerate. You'll have to choose which one you want to activate, so a full next-gen experience is out of the question. Still, a worthy upgrade to a brutal game!

Overall, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is a lot of fun gameplay set with beautiful graphics. While light in the storytelling department, there’s enough here to keep fans happy and more than enough stylish demon slaying to keep this series engaging.

Whether you choose ray-traced glory or the buttery smooth turbo-mode gameplay, Devil May Cry 5 remains an eminently enjoyable action game, and the adding Vergil into the mix only makes it even sweeter.

It has been almost two years since its initial release and yet Devil May Cry 5 remains on the pedestal as one of the best character action games available.

Devil May Cry V Special Edition is a rocking pack that really showcases the new hardware, while still remaining one of the best action games ever created.

This game is kind of a rare beast. The gameplay is more accessible than ever, while the story has reached a new plateau on Mount Convoluted. Players who missed it the first time will be thrilled, but even experienced fans will have good reasons to double dip. The features included make this an excellent Special Edition while being a decent PS5 release. I’m not so invested I want to go back and play the games I missed, though I am glad I came back to the series. If smooth gameplay is your yardstick, then this is the definitive version for you. On the other hand, there are better graphical show pieces for the PS5 out there. Even so, I can easily recommend Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition for new and old fans alike.

This Special Edition completes one of the best hack n' slash in recent years, but its novelties may be insufficient for those who have already played DMC 5.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition perpetuates the formula already proposed by Capcom for the previous iterations of the saga. New modes, playable Vergil and next-gen support are the workhorses of a package that, especially at the proposed price, can not miss in the library of all those players who have never tried the fifth adventure of dante.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is everything fans could want from this game and more. Introducing new characters and implementing new mechanics, was the way that Capcom managed to sustainably mature this series. Its extremely captivating and rewarding soundtrack and setting, allows the players to immerse themselves in this world for the duration of the entire experience. We can only hope that Capcom will continue to invest in this series and confirm how it will be able to reformulate in future titles.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition makes a great action game even better. Although it doesn't quite contain as many additions as I was hoping it would, it's still an excellent game, especially for those who don't already own the vanilla version.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is Devil May Cry at its finest. If you skipped the original release this is a must buy: otherwise, the add-ons are fun but far from being essential.

Devil May Cry 5 remains the one we have known in terms of its gameplay and we are therefore faced with one of the best games of the genre. The various additions imagined by the Capcom teams are welcome and perfectly take advantage of the power of the SSD and graphics chipsets of our machines.

Capcom lands on next gen with the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 5 and does so with a slightly weak edition as regards the contents: the character of Vergil, also sold separately at the price of 5 euros, certainly brings new life to the gameplay but in addition to this we would have expected to be able to play specific missions for the character or at least to enjoy some more cutscenes. For the rest, the title is always an excellent Japanese hack'n'slash that continues to be one of the best in recent years with amazing gameplay and excellent next-gen quality. If you haven't played Devil May Cry 5 yet, this edition has to be yours.
