Alan Wake Remastered Reviews
We take a deeper look at Alan Wake Remastered and compare and contrast this updated edition with the original 2010 version.
If you've never played Alan Wake, this is the best possible way to experience the game. For anyone who loves horror or Remedy's other titles, there's a ton to unpack here with an engaging narrative and stellar gameplay. The remastered enhancements bolster the game even further, giving it a place in today's gaming world, and while the gameplay doesn't perhaps hold up as well as it did in 2010, Alan Wake Remastered is still as joyous as it was back then and a perfect treat for the Halloween season.
Alan Wake, a great psychological thriller from 2010, is back with remastered visuals and the addition od its expansions, and it's still a treat.

Alan Wake Remastered is exactly what it says in the title, and that is a good thing. Alan Wake has received a thorough and clean remaster that doesn't compromise its original look and vision but enhances the gameplay by using all of the PS5's central features, including fast loading times and DualSense feedback. Its story and gameplay, while not perfect, still hold up well today. There is no story-driven game quite like Alan Wake, and being able to revisit this Xbox 360 classic on the PS5 is a dream come true - especially since this likely means that we will get that long-promised sequel.
Alan Wake Remastered is the tortured writer's return to the video game industry, and through the big door, too. Thanks to this more than remarkable remastering, we can enjoy the main story and its DLCs in full. With a plot that catches from the first moment, full of mystery and terror, through a fun gameplay to rage, and an excellent atmosphere, we find one of the essential titles of this year 2021. We just need to pray, and wait for Remedy to finally make a sequel to this authentic classic.

While some of the game’s mechanics haven’t aged super well, it’s still a fun and eerie ride through Bright Falls, and it is enjoyable to see where Remedy came from. If I had played this game when it first came out, I think I would have appreciated it more, but that isn’t to say Alan Wake Remastered isn’t worth your time. If you’re looking for an eccentric and spooky story with some zany characters and good gameplay, spend some time with Alan in Bright Falls.
Alan Wake Remastered is basically the same game that came out in 2010 with its pros and cons remaining intact. If you're a fan or want more context as to what Control's AWE DLC was all about, it might be worthwhile. Otherwise, it's best saved for an on-sale pickup.
Alan Wake Remastered has not only enhanced the existing game, securing it as the best way to currently enjoy it, it’s also made the game accessible to a wider audience as it’s launching on the PS4 and PS5 for the first time. I’m a fan of well paced stories, filled with twists and turns and Alan Wake ticks all the boxes there, while also gripping you within a well developed yet unsettling world. I for one am hoping the recent rumours of Alan Wake 2 are all true as I can’t wait to experience more from this world and see what the talented folk at Remedy cook up next.
I’ve recently written that with remasters, I truly appreciate them when they don’t try to forget the flaws of the original, but instead just smooth the edges off them in a subtle manner. Alan Wake Remastered is one of those, and while it has its moments of frustration and you can sometimes laugh at the overzealous, but admirable, dedication to having Alan narrate the fuck out of everything, it truly is a part of the package, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
It's hard to recommend Alan Wake Remastered when it means suffering through such a terrible port. Unless you're a Switch-only gamer, you'd be well-advised to ignore this altogether, and playing the game on any of the many other systems this is available on. And if your only option is the Switch? Maybe skip this one and just trust everyone who says it's a game well worth playing.
With a captivating story and a tense survival experience, this should be more than satisfying, especially if you’re a fan of other third-person horror titles, such as The Evil Within and Silent Hill that feature similar towns and rural areas.
It’s hard to recommend this de-mastered port of Alan Wake on the Nintendo Switch due to how inconsistent the frame rates are and how downgraded and blurry the graphics are. Considering this title is readily available and cheaper on so many different platforms, you are far better off enjoying this classic third-person horror shooter on a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. If the Switch is your only option or you value portability, then I guess this version is somewhat viable, but just keep your expectations in line. At least it’s not a Cloud port, right?
Alan Wake Remastered is a game that deserves to be enjoyed, there is no doubt about that, but the Nintendo Switch version is only recommended if there is really no option to play it on another platform. We expected much more from this conversion, especially seeing the level of other versions for the platform, but it seems that Remedy was on to something else and what has come out has come out. A great game in a poor version.

By no means is this good, or even mediocre, but I’ve seen much worse on the system. It’s just yet another unnecessary port that not only doesn’t perform well on such limited hardware, but also doesn’t fit in at all as a game available on a portable system. There’s just no reason for you to bother with it.
Alan Wake Remastered is a prime example of just how a remaster should be done! Featuring a sinister narrative coupled together with some simple, but fascinating gameplay mechanics, Alan Wake Remastered is definitely worth picking up!
But even if you miss all of that beautiful metatext, Alan Wake remains a tense thriller that will keep players on the edge of their seats and is a testament to how sometimes less can be more, even in relatively big-budget game designs. Alan Wake Remastered presents an opportunity for a new generation of players to experience a gem that never got its due, and they'd be foolish not to take advantage. Still, they may want to keep on the lights when they do.
Alan Wake finds new life on modern platforms, looking better than ever before.
Alan Wake Remastered is an excellent remaster, complete in its contents and with a renewed graphical aspect, offered at an advantageous price.

Alan Wake Remastered has provided improvements in quality, graphics, and a high frame rate, and it is the best version for those who want to experience the game, but this improvement did not solve the game's problem, which are repetition in missions and enemies.

Alan Wake is a game that’s easy to get caught up in, featuring an atmosphere that’s rich and enticing, writing that is equally campy, charming, and exciting, and characters who are interesting and memorable, even in cases where they may be a little too directly related to their sources of inspiration. It truly is a thrilling experience, and while the game certainly still shows its age at times, it’s absolutely delightful to play through and this is easily the definitive way to do so.
