Resident Evil Village Winter’s Expansion is a solid offering that gives you great new features to enjoy the game. With new additions to the mercenaries mode (but still no option to play locally or online) and a 3rd person mode alone, give it new life. However, Roses’ story is the only Achilles heel of the whole package, but it’s better to play through it to be caught up to the Winters Expansion story, as there is potential for future story content.

The Shadows of Rose DLC is a decent conclusion to the Winters family saga. Since you can finish this expansion in around 3 hours, Capcom packed the experience full of fresh puzzles, tight corridors and monsters that want to eat your face. Quite literally. Rose’s ability to freeze multiple enemies at once and counter their attacks is balanced very well. Making for some tense encounters and puzzle-solving moments where you need to freeze specific objects on the move. However, Rose’s story is quickly over before it ever gets off the ground, and the recycling of several assets and locations from Resident Evil Village may turn off some players. But for the low price this DLC is going for, it still may be worth checking out.

Resident Evil Village: Winter’s Expansion includes a wide range of content. Shadows of Rose is a great addition to the family saga and neatly ties up narrative threads from the base game. Although it follows conventions of the franchise, the supernatural twist does add a new element that leads to some innovative scares. The inclusion of a third-person mode for the main campaign is a fantastic addition and the new characters are great for the Mercenaries mode. Although Rose’s story is a little short, the expansion offers some memorable moments and gives a reason to return to the macabre village.

Shadows of Rose is a safe Resident Evil experience that may be exactly what you’re looking for but doesn’t really take too many risks and, at times, can feel like a replay of Village. It doesn’t go in too deep on the character or move the story on significantly but it is a nice enough send off for the Winters family and it continues to set the tone for the future of the franchise. If you loved Village and are eager for every shred of Resident Evil story, this is a no brainer. I just hope we get to see more of Rose (and her powers) in the future

Shadows of Rose is a solid continuation of the Resident Evil Village story, with minor flaws in its survival horror focus but some tense moments. The other new additions in the Winters' Expansion make an already terrific game even better, with a completely new third-person camera providing a distinct perspective on Resident Evil Village's scary story mode.

The Winters Expansion has brought an interesting content addition to Resident Evil Village. The story expansion is modest, with few really interesting new features due to the attempt to make Rose replicate her father's journey in the same scenarios as the main game. The third-person mode gives a new approach to the gameplay, but for creative decisions it chooses to keep the first-person perspective in the story segments. The Mercenaries: Additional Orders mode was the winner with content that yields good hours of gameplay.

The Resident Evil Village: Winters' Expansion is a nice bundle of story and gameplay content that managed to engage and entertain me despite being a short-lived experience.

Finally, even its ending is as unnecessary as it is lazy. It’s the post-game cutscene from the original game, and it makes even less sense being inserted at the same moment after everything that transpired before it within the new scenario. I can’t fathom how anyone could possibly argue that this DLC is not one of the weakest additional content packages out there and the cheekiest in terms of its asking price. Do yourself a favour and wait for a sale if you absolutely must play it. Please. Lady Dimitrescu is not going anywhere.

Shadow of Rose is a neat package with a solid campaign as well as new features for the original game. At $20 this is a solid pick-up. It was great revisiting the main game and the new content really fleshes out Rose’s role in this whole universe.

Shadow of Rose is a fantastic stint and offers closure for the Winters family. The Mercenaries is more fun than ever and the third-person perspective offers yet another incentive to play the main campaign. If you’re a fan of Resident Evil Village, the Winter’s Expansion is an essential addition and one that you should pick up now.

Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion is a great add-on with its new third-person mode and new story campaign, but I thought The Mercenaries Additional Orders was the best new content. If you enjoyed RE Village, I'm convinced you'll be lycan this DLC expansion.

The Winters’ Expansion for Resident Evil Village breathes new life into an already top-notch survival horror ride with a strong story DLC, but other improvements for replayability don’t exactly push the game to its full potential.

The Winters’ Expansion feels like a victory lap for this era of Resident Evil. It closes the story with a smaller and more personal end to Winters’ storyline. Going through the same locations as the base game may feel cheap, but just enough has changed to justify it and the inclusion of third-person and expanded mercenaries means that there’s plenty of stuff to do here.

This direct sequel to the main game brings some interesting elements, but does not answer any questions we had following Resident Evil Village. In fact, it does the opposite, because it adds questions. Capcom said that it was the end of the Winters saga, which means these questions may never be answered. It's also a shame that there are so few new environments, Capcom reusing several locations from Village. The change from 1st person to 3rd person as well as the addition of telekinetic powers won't be to everyone's taste, but it's very well executed. Don't get me wrong, this is a solid expansion, but it could have been so much more.

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition introduces a new chapter to the story in the form of Shadows of Rose, a twisting trip through a few of the main game’s most iconic locations in a new adventure starring a new character with special powers and a whole lot of questions.

To dive deeper would reveal important story beats, none of which stand out as being a major highlight, but I enjoyed learning more about Rose, revisiting locations from Village with a new perspective (both literally and figuratively), and getting more context on her role in the universe. Considering her potential importance in the future, I assume Shadows of Rose will be an experience worth having played, but I wouldn’t go quite as far as calling it required reading. For something more abstract and focused on horror within the world of Resident Evil, Shadows of Rose is worth exploring.

When we look back at Resident Evil Village, The Winters’ Expansion probably won’t be considered an essential part of it for either story or gameplay reasons. Its story is short and the third-person mode takes out some of the scares. At least Mercenaries mode gets more Lady Dimitrescu!

Shadows of Rose is a fairly concise experience that doesn't stray too far from the source material. It does offer greater insight into the character of Rosemary Winters and her relationship (or lack thereof) with her father. Resident Evil fans looking for a deeper connection into her story will love the time they spend playing as her in this third-person experience.

The additions found within Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion tell a satisfying, albeit short, new story while also spicing up Mercenaries mode and giving the core game a fresh look.
