Tactics Ogre: Reborn Reviews
Matsuno-san’s 1995 classic tactical RPG has been trimmed up and repolished for the modern era, and remains an essential part of any TRPG fan’s collection.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a fantastic way to experience the classic, with a number of quality-of-life upgrades that make the game respect your time and commitment to it. Its visuals may be a hit or miss, especially to the HD-2D-loving crowd, but the voiced performances really bring the game to life. Hardcore fans of the series may not appreciate some of the changes made, but the game still keeps the same depth and strategic approach as before, offering a meaty package that can take over 50 hours to play through.
In the current market, there is nothing quite like Tactics Ogre: Reborn, and this new release appears to check all the right boxes to bring this classic to modern platforms. It is a once-in-a-generation game that should be played even if you are not a fan of the SRPG genre.
It's incredible to think about how detailed the game must have been back in 1995 when it was initially published. Aside from being a great overhaul, it also preserves the game's highly enjoyable fighting with hard difficulties, as well as an engaging plot that keeps players interested as it develops. Despite its length and difficulty, Tactics Ogre: Reborn is never tiresome, and it's undeniably one of the greatest TRPGs out there.
The best iteration of an all-time classic, Tactics Ogre Reborn is a can’t miss experience.
Despite some very occasional problems in audiovisual and gameplay, most of the technical choices were well made for Tactics Ogre Reborn, keeping it without a doubt as one of the best, if not the best, tactical RPG. Considering the complexity of the gameplay, as well as the narrative sophistication, the coherence of the design and the polish of the game as a whole, this is obviously a must-have title for fans of the genre, and also highly recommended for those who appreciate serious and well-written stories in the context of war. However, in relation to newcomers to TRPG, although there is the Chariot Tarot, which makes the game a little less hostile, it clearly is not and does not intend to be very inviting for this audience.

Tactics Ogre Reborn brings back a classic strategic RPG in style. It is an essential game for any player, although some specific choices of the new edition make it difficult for newcomers to enter the genre. Even so, Tactics Ogre continues to show not only the competence of its creators, but the great possibility of games in general as art and reflection.

It's amazing how complex Tactics Ogre was when it was first released in 1995. The first remake for PSP introduced some additional mechanics that will be of great help to today's generation of video gamers. With the new edition "Reborn" they are presented with a tough strategy role-playing game. Fortunately, this convinces with a lot of depth, a complex but exciting story and a huge playtime. A true masterpiece awaits veterans of the genre, while newcomers should play demo or resort to easier representatives.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a remaster of a remake. It’s a game that persists through the wheel of time as it is ported from generation to generation, breathing life into the Ogre Battle series.
Tactics Ogre’s story is a spectacle of chaos in all the best ways possible. It’s a story of the horrors of war, what happens to displaced people, and the power of rebellion.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn pays an excellent tribute to a game that is seen as a reference of the genre. Square Enix found ways to make its title more approachable which is great for newcomers. Although the fights can be very long, the game remains to this day one of the best TRPG. Yes, they could've done a lot more, but it's already a big step in the right direction.

Even though this new remake contains some outdated RPG design elements and mechanics, the core gameplay is still as addictive and challenging as it was back in 1995. Almost every major battle is a true test of tactical prowess, and the new modernisations like stat buff cards, map rotation and trajectory prediction are simply the icing on the cake. Couple this with a fully remastered soundtrack and a great story full of political and personal intrigue, and you're in for an RPG experience that easily stands the test of time.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn is the latest improvement on the game originally released on the Super Famicom, ported to PlayStation and brought to PlayStation Portable as a remake. Using this latest version as a base and adding Spanish to the texts -apart from voices in Japanese and English-, modifying the controls and the combat GUI and some other improvements, we find ourselves with the best possible version of a title that was already an institution in the genre beyond the personal taste of each one. Tactics Ogre: Reborn will give us many hours of fun and challenges in equal parts. Totally recommended.
