At one point in Uncharted 2, Nathan Drake says to Sully, "you've got a great ass"; elsewhere in the game, he makes a similar remark about Chloe's. And now, thanks to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, everyone's butts - and the great characters, stories, laughs, drama, and adventures that go with them - are looking and sounding better than ever.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is an exercise in reestablishing familiarity with one of Sony's most recognizable faces. Almost everything new in the game is ancillary, but what makes this retrospective collection worth consideration is the the quality of design the original games brought to the table.

The Nathan Drake Collection presents a trilogy of single-player adventures at their technical best, but the value proposition will depend on series experience and a few matters of preference.

Playing the iterations consecutively feels good and you can actually witness how Naughty Dog progressed as a story-teller. Every title absolutely holds up and can take its rightful place among current-gen releases.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection might not be that appealing for those who played the Uncharted trilogy on PlayStation 3, but for everyone else it's simply a must buy, particularly if you plan to get Uncharted 4 as well next year.

All three Uncharted games are must-plays, and Bluepoint Games has done an exceptional job porting the trilogy over on PlayStation 4 with The Nathan Drake Collection. The 1080p HD visuals and 60 frames-per-second add a fresh coat of paint that make all three entries look and feel relatively ageless. The set pieces are as thrilling as ever, and the characters are still charming and well written. But the lack of a multiplayer component is one strange and noticeable decision.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is exactly what you'd expect. The first game doesn't quite measure up and could turn off newcomers (always a concern), and the games really don't have a lot of "new" in them. But really, the brilliance of this top-tier action/adventure series remains in full view throughout, and the remastering veterans at Bluepoint did a good job.

An essential purchase for Uncharted newbies and the graphical upgrade makes it hard to resist for series fans too. Naughty Dog's trilogy shames the competition with exceptionally detailed levels, blockbuster action scenes and a lovable cast that will be sorely missed when the series wraps up with Uncharted 4 next year.

Prior to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, each Uncharted game was already a technical masterpiece, and Naughty Dog did an excellent job of making it enticing to me to marathon through the series. Fans who have already played the PS3 games will be pleased with the improvements, and newbies interested in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will have the perfect place to start.

Nevertheless, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a bringing together of what is probably the best set of games of the last generation. Developer diaries and commentary additions withstanding, the three games hold up in 2015 and, leading up to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, offer those who did not have the chance to play last generation to experience Drake's entire tale before what could be his final outing.
