After diving into Another Crab's Treasure, it's hard to understand why hasn't more been done to expand beyond the foundational souls-like element. There's clearly room for thinking outside the box, and Aggro Crab mostly nails it with this unique take. With colorful characters and an even more vibrant world, jump in for the feel-good vibes and partake in mostly satisfying underwater combat. Despite the occasional hiccups, this is still one shell of an adventure that works great for genre veterans and newcomers alike.

The game’s quirky sensibility lends amusing irony to its critique of modern industry’s environmental destruction. Where item descriptions in the Dark Souls series and its ilk flesh out the esoteric lore of their settings, here they offer a crab’s-eye view of life on the surface. “Residue of a painful venom lines the outside of this armor,” reads the blurb about the nozzle of a hot sauce bottle that Kril can equip as a shell. As Another Crab’s Treasure conjures a universe in which the vast horde of trash sunk carelessly into the sea might have its benefits, the game pokes countless holes in its fantasy, letting reality flood in: No amount of make-believe can render humankind’s impact on the Earth anything but poisonous.

Another Crab's Treasure may not convince soulslike skeptics, but it's a lovingly executed underwater take on the challenging genre.

Even though Another Crab's Treasure doesn't break the mold of your typical Souls-like game, it's a charming one thanks to its funny and not-so-serious mood. The hilarious yet practical accessibility features along with a colorful cast of characters make this one of the best indie Souls-likes to date. Who knew that one of my favorite indie games of this year would involve a hermit crab setting off on a deep sea adventure to take back his shell?

Another Crab's Treasure is a colorful and lively platformer that's also a tough action RPG with Soulslike combat. They juxtapose each other perfectly, and I had a fun time discovering shells, collecting microplastics, and defeating grueling bosses.

Another Crab's Treasure might be cartoony and fun, but it still has everything you'd want from a Soulslike: great bosses, huge and sprawling levels, and plenty of giant enemy crabs.

If you’ve been looking to take the plunge and play a Soulslike game but were afraid of the dying or “get good” nonsense, then Another Crab’s Treasure should be first on your list. The simplified systems, while still processing the same great Soulslike gameplay, and even the assist mode that lets you play at your own pace. Come on in, the water is fine!

Another Crab's Treasure is a Soulslike hit and another win for Aggro Crab. Proving the genre can be more than just darkness and grit, offering colour and whimsy all within a memorable nautical world. Though it might not always be the most original, that's easily forgiven thanks to damn good action RPG combat, a healthy dose of accessibility and thoughtful environment design you'll get lost in for hours. Ducking in and out of shells, toppling great big bosses and zipping around with a grappling hook is SO. MUCH. FUN. This journey to the deep is well worth the plunge.

Another Crab's Treasure is a scrappy, succinct and soggy soulslike that doesn't just pay homage to FromSoft's pioneering efforts but stands out in its own right. There's no getting around the fact that it has serious issues of performance and polish that can really bring down the experience, but it's a game so packed with charm, so inspired, so unexpectedly cooked and with so many flashes of brilliance that I can genuinely say it's worth suffering through the pain points. I don't think I've been quite so enamoured with a game like this in a long time.

Despite some technical flaws on Nintendo Switch, Another Crab's Treasure is a fun and engaging soulslike, that feels like something fresh (and well-written story-wise!).

Judged only on the hybrid version, Aggro Crab's underwater adventure is a choppy, unsightly mess that veers briefly into unplayable territory in the Unfathom, potentially due to memory leaks. If you're a Souls-like addict, Another Crab's Treasure is worth checking out — as long as it's on a platform other than Switch.

Another Crab's Treasure is an excellent souls-like game disguised as a cute game, although it still has room for optimization, the overall experience is unique. The interesting shell-switching mechanism runs throughout, and the solid combat is addictively engaging.

There's a lot to like about Another Crab's Treasure. Its underwater setting and cutesy premise makes this a unique Soulslike, and its accessibility options means this is one of only a few games in the genre that can truly be played by all. But there are bugs and issues galore, stopping this crustacean's adventure from being quite as enjoyable as it should be.

Another Crab's Treasure is more than just another soulslike, it has a lot of things we haven't seen in these kinds of games and it's delightful from start to finish. It makes sure that every gamer can have a great time with it.

The adventures of the hermit crab Kril mark an important episode not only for Aggro Crab, but for the soulslike genre as a whole – even if it suffers from a few stumbles along the way.

I had a great time with Another Crabs Treasure. The combat was enjoyable and the story was a treat. I went in knowing very little about it and came away really impressed. It looks lovely, the cast are excellent and the gameplay is tight. Its short length is ideal, with me finishing in about 8 hours. There’s plenty to do in that short time and it’s exceptionally streamlined. What we’ve been given is a great example of how to take inspiration from something and put your own stamp on it. The ability to tune the difficulty to your own preference is an excellent idea that would be great to see implemented in similar titles. Aggro Crab have a winner on their hands here and I hope we get to see more of Krills adventures in the future.

Another Crab's Treasure introduction to the soulslike subgenre and offers enough customization and interesting mechanics to keep it interesting for veteran players. Each fight feels rewarding and meaningful, while the lovingly crafted environments make exploration a treat for the eye. Some camera issues muddy the waters somewhat, but not enough to make this an excellent title from Aggro Crab.
