If you put aside the awful introductory cutscenes and unforgivably bad framerate for a PC game, Earth Defense Force 6 is basically more Earth Defense Force, and that’s never a bad thing. A completely stupid but endearing shooter with simple controls and a really fun gameplay loop; that’s all it needs to be, at the end of the day. Would I recommend picking it up on PC over its more traditional console versions? Well, if you can put up with the crappy performance (something which can be remedied with a patch), I’d say yes. Mouse and keyboard controls on an arcade shooter will always be a welcome addition to a successful formula.

Earth Defense Force 6 provides near-endless excitement and fun. I'm having a total blast after 75+ hours already logged and not one ounce of fatigue has set in.

The main problem with EDF6 is that there’s simply too much of it. The base game includes 147 levels, each with five difficulty levels if you really want to be a completist. While it’s undeniably fun to blast away at aliens, bugs, and robots, at a certain point it all feels a little repetitive. The game starts to feel like a slog of explosions, no matter what the setting is.

EDF6 is confident in wearing its rough edges with pride while also being a gleeful, joyous mess alone or with company.

Earth Defense Force 6 has a heartfelt plot of humanity to save the much devastated state of earth from invaders since its prequel. If you listen closely to your comrades’ quotes and communications, you will be drawn into the lore of reasons to become a planet defense combatant. The visuals will remind you of the retro era of gaming, frequent frame drops and out of place grotesque aliens may be a put-off to some, but the sentiments of utilizing all sorts of equipment to just fend off aliens off the planet is something to experience for.

Earth Defense Force 6 remains as corny and bombastic as ever with all types of weapons to take down hoards of foes in what remains a fun and chaotic experience that feels a bit stuck in the past.

Earth Defense Force 6 is more of the same, in the best way possible. It can get tedious at times, and it looks more like a PS3 game than a PS5 game, but it delivers all the chills, thrills, and spills you'd expect from the franchise.

Earth Defense Force 6 is the series at its best. Taken together, the engaging narrative, expanded enemies and locales, and class changes push EDF 6 to new heights. With the most content of any EDF game to get through, I can easily recommend picking the game up. I’ve spent 44 hours with the game so far, and I’ll easily spend a few hundred more playing through the campaign again, alone and with friends, multiple times over. The fun never stops.

EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is an evolution and successor to EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 5 both in gameplay and as a game. There’s so many quality of life improvements, more missions, a far more intriguing storyline, and the best enemy variety the series has ever seen. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is a triumph of mindless fun. It delivers everything fans of the series have come to expect and more. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it refines the formula to near-perfection. With its over-the-top action and addictive replayable gameplay, EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is a must-have.

Earth Defense Force 6 is an over-the-top game that retains its defining elements while adding something new to the experience. It’s one of those games you play knowing it will feel like a B-film.
