Metaphor: ReFantazio is a true masterpiece. Its rich and unparalleled story and narrative reflect the deepest issues of society and the world through the lens of fantasy, leaving a lasting impression with unforgettable characters. While its gameplay structure bears similarities to the company’s previous works, it significantly evolves this foundation to ultimately achieve a flawless formula. Finally, its stunning art style, extraordinary music, and exceptional sound design serve as the final pieces of the puzzle, completing this masterpiece.

I went into Metaphor: ReFantazio not knowing what to expect, but one thing I didn’t expect was to be so intrigued that I’d let it be all I’d play for weeks on end. For a game to have a gripping story, combat that’s easy to learn and hard to master, characters I care about, and no performance issues truly covers all my bases and makes this a great entry point to anyone so inclined from its trailers.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is an incredible game, that implements many quality-of-life improvements to the Persona formula, while enhancing that experience to create an exceptional fantasy RPG. Metaphor delivers a captivating and memorable villain, with a lovable ensemble cast, and brilliant soundtrack, all of which work together to craft a compelling fantasy adventure.
Metaphor: ReFantazio has lived up to the hype and is the "best non-Persona Persona" we have right now. Persona fans are eating good this year.

Metaphor: Refantazio is a big new step for the Studio Zero team and I came away feeling like it was a massive success for the team. It delivered on everything I wanted from it back when I heard about it as Project Re Fantasy as all I really wanted was Persona in a fantasy setting.
Atlus presents Metaphor: ReFantazio, a JRPG with a captivating story, great music, and appeal for both seasoned and new players. While its aging engine and slow narrative pacing may deter some, the game offers a rich experience for those ready to invest many hours.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a masterful RPG that defies expectations, and it's the pinnacle of its genre. Players are plunged into an amazing and complex fantasy setting as a protagonist setting out to right the wrongs of its kingdom: the United Kingdom of Euchronia. Along the way, players meet several well-written characters, including a tremendous threat of a villain. ATLUS refined and perfected the calendar and turn-based battle systems to create an all-time classic. This is absolute brilliance.
Metaphor ReFantazio is, in its essence, a Persona game with a new coat of paint. The gameplay improvements, excellent soundtrack and engrossing narrative make it a game where I, not the biggest fan of JRPGs, ended up investing over 70 good hours into and never felt saturated.

It might not be as charming, stylish, or memorable as Persona, but Metaphor: ReFantazio plays better than any other JRPG made by Atlus I can remember. In terms of writing, I can safely say that this is one of the most interesting and engaging plots in any JRPG, ever, even if, at first, it feels like its premise won’t ever make sense. It’s a bit shorter and its pacing is a tad bit more concise, making it more accessible and replayable. Finally, add in a fantastic combat system, and what you have here is a bonafide hit.
Metaphor: ReFantazio might have some issues with difficulty, but it’s still one of the best turn-based JRPGs we’ve played this year. If you miss the classic Square Enix (SquareSoft) games, Atlus is here to quench your thirst. Just don’t forget to adjust the difficulty, and you’ll have a great time.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a great game and almost mandatory for fans of Japanese RPGs. With this game Studio Zero shows that they can easily address serious themes and make a game that is right on almost every aspect. It is a game with very small valleys and gigantic heights. Normally I would not quickly name a game of the year. For Metaphor: ReFantazio I make an exception for the first time. As far as I am concerned, this game is the game of the year in a year full of excellent titles.

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes a very important step for Atlus, showing that it is possible to do something much more than Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. The entire Studio Zero development team stepping out of their comfort zone and delivering an experience on this level is genuinely incredible.
